Video of Princeton's Goal at Yale
Princeton freshman Vanessa Gregoire assisted on the only goal in the Tigers' 1-0 win over Yale Saturday, helping the team to three valuable standings points to open the Ivy race.
An 85th-minute throw-in began the play that led to Tyler Lussi's goal. After a Yale head met the throw-in, Gregoire won the ball when it landed just beyond the 18-yard box straight on from the net. Gregoire passed forward to Lussi near the penalty spot, and Lussi fired the ball inside the left post for the goal.
It is the first Ivy League recognition for Gregoire, who started the first two games of the season but missed the team's last four prior to the Yale game due to injury. Gregoire was back in the starting lineup Saturday, playing 78 minutes.
Gregoire is the second Tiger freshman in three weeks to win the Ivy Rookie of the Year award after classmate Beth Stella was awarded the honor on Sept. 15, and she's the fourth player currently on the roster to win an Ivy weekly rookie honor. Lauren Lazo won twice in 2011 and Lussi was a three-time winner last season.
