| Game Summary |
The Ivy League's champion and NCAA tournament representative for 2015 is Princeton. The Tigers decided that Saturday with a 2-0 win over Cornell, with Tyler Lussi arcing a ball into the goal in the eighth minute to give Princeton a lead and junior classmate Jesse McDonough scoring for the first time this season by heading home a Lussi cross in the 60th minute to help put the game away. The win made Princeton the automatic bid winner and guaranteed at least a share of the Ivy title, but it wasn't until Dartmouth forged a 1-1 tie with Harvard that Princeton claimed the title outright. Princeton will enter the league's final weekend with 18 points and a 6-0 record, ahead of second-place Harvard's 4-1-1 record and 13 points. Princeton will look to finish a 7-0-0 Ivy season next Saturday at Penn in a 5 p.m. start. Princeton will learn its NCAA tournament opponent Monday, Nov. 9 at 4:30 p.m. on NCAA.com. |
| Game Notes |
• Princeton honored its three seniors, co-captain Emily Sura, Catherine Hartigan and Stephanie Paloscio, prior to the game. • The Ivy title is Princeton's eighth all-time and the NCAA appearance will be Princeton's 11th, each for the first time since 2012. • Junior Tyler Lussi scored her 13th goal of the season and 41st of her career, tying her for second with Linda DeBoer '86 with 41, and program record holder Esmeralda Negron '05 had 47 in her career. • Princeton extended its winning streak to 11 games and its run of success against Cornell to 20 straight wins, with the last loss coming in 1995. • The last time it had a win streak as long as 11 games was 2012, when the team took a 12-match win streak into the second round of the NCAA tournament. • Sean Driscoll became the first Princeton coach to win an Ivy title in his first season while becoming just the third coach in Ivy League history to do so, joining former Dartmouth coaches Erica Walsh and Ben Landis. Princeton's 13th win of the season is a personal best for Driscoll as an NCAA head coach, and he will make his NCAA tournament career debut, including both his playing and coaching career. • Princeton has outscored its opponents 32-8 during the 11-game winning streak. • Princeton has won 13 of its first 16 games for the first time since 2004. • Princeton was just the third team this season to score more than one goal against Cornell, joining Harvard and Brown. |
