The Princeton men's cross country team will battle for a place at the NCAA Championships, when it hosts the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional on Nov. 13.
The men's 10k race will be at 1 p.m., Friday. The top two teams in the regional will advance to the NCAA championship meet, which will be held Nov. 21 in Louisville, Ky.
The Tigers will face 26 teams, including ranked squads No. 15 Georgetown, No. 22 Villanova, No. 23 Penn
Four ranked teams will race for those two spots, including: No. 10 Penn State, No. 14 Georgetown, No. 23 Princeton and, No. 26 Villanova. West Virginia is receiving votes.
The crown has won by just three different teams in the past: Georgetown has won seven times, Villanova won its first last year and Princeton won in 2010.
It will still be possible to advance as a team to the NCAA championships without finishing in the top two and grabbing one of the at-large bids that are awarded through a complex formula.Additionally, the top four runners on non-qualifying teams will earned at-large bids to the NCAAs.
Leading the way for the Tigers on the course is senior Michael Sublette. He was first across the line at Heps and has been one of the top runners all season. Freshman Jeremy Spiezio and Steven Sum have scored in all three meets. Senior Sam Berger, who earned all-Ivy League honors for his 14th-place finish, has been in the top seven all season - along with sophomore Noah Kauppila. Senior Brett Kelly was the fourth Tiger across the line at Heps and sophomore Kenan Farmer was a scorer at Wisconsin. Adding support are sophomores Charlie Stahl, Zachary Albright and Wolfgang Beck.
