PRINCETON, N.J. – With a 2-1 overtime victory over Penn on Saturday afternoon, the 18th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team punched its ticket to the 2015 NCAA Championships.
Claiming the Ivy title outright by virtue of its victory over the Quakers, the Tigers secured the league's automatic NCAA bid. Drawing Maryland in first round action, Princeton will make its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance. Game time is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Top-seeded Syracuse, which will face the winner of Kent State and the University of Massachusetts, will host the regional site, with the quarterfinals featuring the winner of Orange's first round match-up and Maryland/Princeton on Sunday, Nov. 15.
LAST TIME OUT
• Princeton (10-6, 7-0 Ivy) claimed the outright Ivy title with a 2-1 overtime victory over Penn on Saturday afternoon.
• Staking the Tigers to an early lead, Maddie Copeland netted the game's first goal at 6:54. The Quakers' Selena Garzio tied the game at 66:55 before Ryan McCarthy came up with the game winner just 2:35 into the first overtime session.
• Princeton finished with an 8-7 shot advantage and a 7-5 edge in penalty corners.
TOP OF THE CLASS
• With Saturday's victory over Penn, Princeton secured the Ivy League's automatic NCAA Tournament bid.
• Winning its 11th-straight (24th overall) conference crown, the Tigers will make their 20th NCAA appearance.
• Princeton's perfect 7-0 season is the 14th in program history since the seven-game format debuted in 1997.
• The Tigers have now won or earned a share of the Ivy League title in 21 of the last 22 seasons.
• Under 13-year head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn, the Tigers are 86-5 against league opponents, with their only losses coming to Dartmouth (2004, 2007), Cornell (2007), Penn (2004), and Columbia (2014).
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
• Princeton is making its 20th NCAA Tournament appearance.
• The Tigers are 27-19 all-time in NCAA championship play.
• Winning the program's lone national championship in 2012, the Orange and Black have advanced to the national quarterfinals on 13 occasions and have made four trips to the national semifinals.
• Princeton is 12-6 in NCAA first round action.
POSTSEASON AWARDS
• Princeton claimed three of the Ivy League's four major postseason awards. Maddie Copeland was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Year while Sophia Tornetta was tabbed the Rookie of the Year. Kristen Holmes-Winn was named the league's Coach of the Year.
• Seven Tigers earned a spot on the All-Ivy team. Copeland and Tornetta joined Elise Wong on the first team, while Teresa Benvenuti, Cat Caro, and Ryan McCarthy secured a place on the second team. Anya Gersoff earned recognition as an honorable mention selection.
• Copeland is the third Tiger to be tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year since the award's induction in 2011, joining Kathleen Sharkey (2012) and Michelle Cesan (2013).
• Wong and Tornetta's selection to the first team marked the first time one Ivy program put a pair of freshmen on its top all-conference squad since 2009, when Princeton's Cesan and Julia Reinprecht were honored.
BALANCING ACT
• 12 different players have record a point for Princeton this season, including six Tigers who have collected at least 10.
• Maddie Copeland leads the way with 34 points on 16 goals and two assists and has scored in each of her last four outings.
• Sophia Tornetta is second on the team in scoring with 19 points on five goals and nine assists.
• Ryan McCarthy has collected seven goals and four assists in 16 appearances.
• Dishing out three assists in her last two games, Teresa Benvenuti has amassed a team-high 11 helpers. Earlier this season Benvenuti tied a single-game program record with four assists against Dartmouth (Sept. 27).
• Cat Caro (4G, 4A) and Nicole Catalino (6G) each have 12 points on the season.
• Princeton's freshmen have combined for 54 of the team's 144 points.

• Starting the year 2-3 following three-consecutive, one-goal losses to Boston College, Duke, and Albany, Maryland has rattled off 17-straight victories.
• Maryland is making its 21st-consecutive (27th overall) NCAA appearance and carries a 56-19 (0.747) championship record into this year's tournament.
• Welma Luus led the Terrapins in the Big Ten Tournament with a record seven goals during a three-game stretch.
