Princeton shot 50 percent from the field and took 39 free throws, and it was just enough to beat Liberty 77-72 Thursday night in Jadwin Gym.
The Tigers will have a quick turnaround before facing Maryland, ranked No. 6 in the nation by the AP and No. 7 by the coaches, Saturday at 7 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.
Liberty was able to keep it close with the Tigers - Princeton never led by eight points and the Flames led by as much as five early - thanks to 53.8 percent shooting, eight 3-pointers and a 29-27 rebounding advantage against a Princeton team that entered the game with a rebounding advantage of eight boards a contest.
Princeton trailed 29-26 five minutes before halftime and went on a 12-2 run to take a seven point lead less than four minutes later. The Tigers never trailed again, though Liberty tied it as late as 56-56 with less than nine minutes to go.
Henry Caruso had a career-high 29 points in the win, two better than his previous best of 27 against FDU last month. Caruso was a rebound away from his fourth double-double of the season, pulling down a game-high nine boards.
After the Maryland game, Princeton will host Bucknell Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Jadwin Gym. The first 500 fans will receive a Princeton beanie.
