Fourth-Ranked Women's Squash Runs Win Streak To Five, Tops Cornell 8-1
February 08, 2015 | Women's Squash
Though the margin of victory was significant, the Tigers had to pull out three five-game thrillers against the Big Red. Two of those victories came from seniors playing in their final regular season match. Captain Alex Lunt owned leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before finally topping Margaux Losty 11-7 in the final game at No. 4.
Classmate Hallie Dewey held a 2-0 lead at No. 6, but Emma Uible rallied for a pair of 11-9 wins to even the match at 2-2. Dewey also had the answers later for a 3-2 win.
Nicole Bunyan made sure it was a senior sweep for the Tigers; she overcame a loss in the opener with a trio of 11-9 wins to defeat Rachel Scherman at No. 3.
The third five-game win for Princeton came at the No. 8 spot, where freshman Kira Keating also saw a 2-0 lead disappear; she defeated Charlotte Knaggs 11-8 in the fifth for the victory.
Sophomore Maria Elena Ubina capped a perfect regular season with a 3-0 win at the No. 2 spot, while junior Tara Harrington scored a pair of 12-10 wins for a 3-1 victory at No. 7.
Princeton will likely remain No. 4 in the seedings and should have a quarterfinal rematch with Yale in the first round of the Howe Cup Friday. The Bulldogs defeated Princeton 5-4 in the Howe Cup quarterfinal last year, while the Tigers scored a 5-4 win at Yale during the regular season this year.
