Men's Track & Field Reclaims Ivy League Indoor Heptagonal Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Behind several strong performances, the Princeton University men's track & field team reclaimed the Ivy League Heptagonal championship.
Placing second in each of the past two seasons, the Tigers captured their first indoor title since 2012 with 161 points. It marked the 22nd-consecutive season in which Princeton has finished either first or second at the league's indoor meet. Cornell was the meet's runner-up with 98 points, followed by Brown (78), Penn (75) and Harvard (64.50). Dartmouth was sixth (59), while Columbia (56) edged out Yale (21.50) for seventh.
Setting a new personal record, Nana Owusu-Nyantekyi was the runner-up in the triple jump with a mark of 15.67m (51-05.00). Lane Russell earned four more points for Princeton in the event, coming in fourth at 15.08m (49-05.75).
Also turning in a personal-best mark, Christopher Cook came in second in the shot put. Surpassing his previous PR of 18.34 set at the HYP Tri-Meet, Cook unleashed a toss of 18.85m (61-10.25) on his second attempt. Scott Rushton came in third with a mark of 17.08m (56-00.50).
Securing eight points for the Tigers, Garrett O'Toole was the runner-up in the mile run at 4:06.85. In a tightly contested finish, the freshman clocked in just over a tenth of a second behind Columbia's Rob Napolitano (4:06.73).
In the finals of the 60m hurdles, Rob Mohr and Greg Caldwell finished 2-3. Mohr turned in a time of 7.95, while Caldwell shaved three one-hundredths of a second off his previous best (8.00) with a new PR of 7.97.
With a strong showing in the 60m dash, Princeton collected 13 more points. Carrington Akosa finished second overall (6.89), while Dré Nelson (6.92) and John Hill (6.93) placed fourth and sixth, respectively. Continuing to impress, Akosa later captured the 200m crown with a time of 21.78.
Josh Ingalls picked up six points in the 500m, placing third with a time of 1:03.26, while Bradley Paternostro came in fourth in the 800m with a time of 1:51.68. Luke Brahm and Noah Kauppila finished second and fourth in the 1000m run. Brahm clocked in at 2:26.10, while Kauppila crossed the finish line in 2:26.34.
Matt McDonald finished second in the 5000m run with a PR of 14:18.10. Mike Mazzaccaro came in fourth overall with a time of 14:19.79. Stephen Soerens was fifth in the heptahlon with a score of 4662, while Bryan Oslin placed sixth (4557).
In the relays, the 4x440m of Akosa, Greg Leeper, Josh Freeman and Ray Mennin placed third with a time of 3:17.90. The 4x880 squad of Eric Schulz, Paternostro, Brahm and Kauppila was also third with a time of 7:36.39. The men's DMR finished fifth with a time of 10:00.25.
