Johnson Sets Single-Game Saves Record in 14-5 Win Over George Washington

PRINCETON, N.J. – Behind a school-record 22-save effort from Ashleigh Johnson, the 10th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team extended its win streak to six games with a decisive 14-5 victory over George Washington University.
With the win, Princeton improved to 22-2 on the season. Moving to 43-0 all-time against the Colonials, the Tigers remain unbeaten in CWPA play at 5-0.
Staking the visitors to an early advantage, Ashley Hatcher netted the game's first three goals. Morgan Hallock made it 4-0 with tally at the 2:03 mark of the first before a pair of Chelsea Johnson scores extended the lead to six.
After a pair of George Washington goals, C. Johnson struck again, before Syndey Cheong made it 8-2 with 6:29 to go in the second quarter. C. Johnson followed with her third of the afternoon before Jessie Holechek found the back of the net to give Princeton a 10-2 edge.
Down 12-3 heading into the final frame, the Colonials scored twice to trim the deficit to seven, but a Holechek tally coupled with a Hatcher goal pushed the final margin up to 14-5.
C. Johnson and Hatcher each finished with four goals, while Holechek turned in a hat-trick. Hallock had a pair of scores and a team-high five drawn ejections, while Cheong chipped in with a goal and a steal. Camille Hooks nabbed a squad-best four steals.
Stopping seven of the eight shots she faced in the first quarter, A. Johnson added five more saves in the second. Turning away all six shots that came her way in the third, she tacked on four more saves in the final period to finish with 22 – breaking her own school record. A. Johnson now owns or shares the top eight single-game save totals in program history.
