Rushton & Scinto Win on Day 2 of Larry Ellis Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. - Senior Scott Rushton and junior Jake Scinto picked up wins for the Princeton men's track & field team on Day 2 of the Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday at Weaver Stadium.
Rushton won the shot put at 17.40 (57-1) on his fifth attempt of the afternoon. His second and third throws of 17.33 and 16.86 would have won him the event as well.
Scinto was the runner-up in the long jump, launching himself to 7.39 (24-3) on his fourth attempt, just after a jump of 7.38. Senior Tumi Akinlawon was fourth at 7.25 (23-9.50), while sophomore Greg Leeper was fifth at 7.20 (23-7.50). Leeper had the best time for the Tigers in the 400 hurdles at 53.48 to finish in fifth place.
Senior Nana Owusu-Nytankeyi dominated the triple jump as he leapt to 15.56 (51-00.75) nearly a meter better than the rest of the competition. He cleared 15 meters twice, on his third and fourth attempts. Freshman Lane Russell was fifth at 14.51 (47-7.25) on his second attempt, while passing on his final four jumps.
Junior Adam Bragg was the runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 5.26 (17-3) on his second attempt at that height. Sophomore Ben Gaylord was fifth at 4.70 (15-5).
Freshman Mitchel Charles was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 52.51 (172-3) on his fifth attempt.
On the track, junior Greg Caldwell and senior Rob Mohr went 2-3 in the 110-meter hurdles. Caldwell was .03 seconds off of the win at 14.29 while Mohr ran 14.56.
Freshman Kenan Farmer was third in the 1500 at 3:54.13, while classmate Eric Schulz was ninth in the 800 at 1:54.60.
Junior John Hill was third in the 100 at 10.77, while freshman Carrington Akosa was sixth at 10.80. Akosa went on to place ninth in the 200 at 21.80, with sophomore Brent Albertson leading the Tigers with an eight-place finish of 21.66.
Princeton will compete at the Penn Relay this upcoming week, April 23-15.
