Game Summary
Natalie Larkin powered her way along the endline in the ninth minute and threaded home a goal, and Princeton never looked back in a 6-0 win over Howard to open the 2015 season Friday night at Roberts Stadium. By the time the game was 23 minutes old, Princeton had opened the lead to 4-0, with rookie Mimi Asom, sophomore Vanessa Gregoire and junior Haley Chow chipping in goals. Princeton led 5-0 at the half after a Tyler Lussi goal in the 31st minute and Beth Stella had the final goal in the 57th minute. Princeton outshot the Bison 35-5 and didn't allow a corner kick while the Tigers got 10 of their own. Two of those resulted in goals, with Gregoire bending one in on her own in the 20th minute and setting up a Chow header less than three minutes later.
Game Notes
• Princeton's six goals were its most since a 6-1 win over Lehigh on Oct. 10, 2012 • A 6-0 win over Francis Marion on Oct. 10, 2011 was the last time Princeton won a game by six or more goals as well as the last time six players scored in a game. • This was the first meeting in the series between Howard and Princeton. • Mimi Asom was the first freshman to score in her rookie season opener since Tyler Lussi in 2013. • Tyler Lussi's goal was the 29th of her career, breaking a tie with former teammate Lauren Lazo '15 for fifth place in Princeton history. • This was Princeton's first win in a season opener in two years. • Sean Driscoll is the third consecutive Princeton coach to win his or her Tiger debut.
