September 10, 2015 | Men's Cross Country
PRINCETON, N.J. (9/9/14) - The Princeton men's and women's cross country team open the 2015 season on Friday, Sept. 11 at the HYP meet.
Harvard hosts the tri-meet this year, at its home course Franklin Park. The women's race is set to begin at 2 p.m., while the men's race is at 3 p.m.
The Princeton women are No. 29 in the USTFCCCA preseason poll and fifth in Mid-Atlantic region. Yale and Harvard are ranked No. 10 and 11, respectively, in the Northeast regional poll. The Tigers won the meet last year with a score of 21 to Yale's 47 and Harvard's 68. Princeton went 2-3-4-5-7 to post an average time of 17:47.6, nearly 10 seconds faster than Yale and 25 seconds faster than Harvard. This year, Princeton will look for a new No. 1 as five-time All-America Megan Curham takes the season off due to an internship. Returning scorers from last year include senior Kathryn Fluehr, senior Kathryn Little and sophomore Natalie Rathjen. Rathjen went on to earn all-region honors and Fluehr was first-team all-Ivy.
Like the women's team, the Tigers claimed the victory last year. Princeton went 1-3-6-10-11 for 31 points while Yale captured a 2-4-5-7-14 for 32. Harvard finished last with 68 points. Last year's individual winner Sam Pons graduated, as did its 3-11. Seniors Michael Sublette, Sam Berger are the returning scores from last year's top five. Sublette went on to take second at Heps and earned all-region honors, while Berger was second-team All-Ivy League. The preseason polls have Princeton ranked No. 4 in the Mid-Atlantic region. In the Northeast poll, Yale is No. 6, while Harvard is No. 9.
