September 29, 2015 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – Freshman Sophia Tornetta of the 20th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week after helping the Tigers to a 7-3 victory over Dartmouth College.
Kicking off the scoring moments after the opening whistle, Tornetta was on the finishing end of a give-and-go with teammate Ryan McCarthy, putting Princeton on the board just 18 seconds into the contest. In the 56th minute, Tornetta capped off the Tigers' scoring, successfully converting a penalty stroke for her fourth goal of the season.
This is Tornetta's second Ivy Rookie of the Week honor. Tornetta was also named the conference' ROTW on Sept. 8 after posting two goals, an assist, and a pair of defensive saves against No. 3 North Carolina and No. 4 Virginia. Through seven games, Tornetta ranks second on the team in points (12) and tied for second in assists (4) and goals (4).
Princeton returns to action on Friday, Oct. 2 against Yale University.
