Men's Track & Field Wins Eight Events at Tiger Open

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/24/16) - The Princeton men's track & field team won eight events at the Tiger Open, affectionately renamed the Jonas Storm Meet, on Sunday evening at Jadwin Gym.
In the sprints, the Tigers won four events. Senior Greg Caldwell won the 60-meter hurdles, freshman Charles Volker won the 60, sophomore Carrington Akosa won the 200 and sophomore Josh Freeman won the 400.
Four Tigers reached the 60-hurdle finals as Caldwell won the event at 8.15. Sophomore James Burns was fifth at 8.51 – a new PR, while freshman Sebastian Silveira clocked 8.68 and sophomore Spencer Long put up PR of 8.93.
The Tigers went 1-2-3-4 in the 60 led by newcomer Volker. Volker clocked 6.81, followed by Akosa at 6.94, junior Brent Albertson at 7.06 and Caldwell at 7.14.
Akosa went on to win the 200 at 22.10, with Albertson second at 22.70. Senior Jake Scinto was fourth at 22.99.
It was a dominant performance in the 400 as five Tigers finished in the top 10 led by Freeman's win at 49.24. Freshman Christian Fryer-Davis was second at 49.74, while sophomores Maxwell Schwegman, Brennan O'Connor and Long went 4-5-6.
The relay of Fryer-Davis, Akosa, junior Ray Mennin and Freeman won at 4x400 with a time of 3:20.20.
In the field events, Princeton claimed four more victories. Freshman Adam Kelly won the weight throw, junior Christopher Cook the shot put, junior Xavier Bledsoe the high jump and sophomore August Kiles in the pole vault.
Kelly won the weight throw at 20.22 (66-4.25), on his second attempt. His final three throws were all over 19 meters and would have won him the event as well. Junior Vic Youn was third at 18.00 (59-00.75).
Cook's 18.33 (60-1.75) won him the shot put. It came on his final attempt, while he reached 18 meters twice, his other mark being 18.24. Sophomore Mitchel Charles was third at 16.90 (55-5.50), with all of this countable throws over 16 meters.
Bledsoe won the high jump at 1.98 (6-6) clearing the mark on his first attempt, while sophomore Colin Reilly was fourth clearing 1.93 (6-4) on his first attempt.
Kiles was the only competitor to clear five meters in the pole vault as he reached a PR of 5.25 (17-2.75) on his third attempt. Junior Ben Gaylord was the runner up at 4.80 (15-9) as he cleared it on his first try.
The Tigers went 2-3-4 in the long jump with Scinto second at 7.20 (23-7.5), on his fifth try. Senior Bryan Oslin followed with a PR of 6.71 (22-0.25) and sophomore Lane Russell reached 6.65 (21-10) on his first attempt.
Princeton will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 29 for the annual HYP Meet. This year the meet will be held at Ocean Breeze Park in Staten Island.
