Contini Named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week

Senior Molly Contini was named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week as the Princeton women's hockey team opened the 2016-17 season this past weekend. Contini was also named the GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week, presented by Suburban Transit.
Contini led Princeton in scoring as the Tigers swept Providence, a team who had already played six games, on the road. Contini had five points on three goals and two assists and was on the ice for seven of Princeton's 11 goals this weekend.
The senior scored twice in a 4-2 win on Saturday afternoon including the team's first goal of the season. After snagging the puck off the face off and sending it to a teammate on the left point, it was Contini who was positioned at the back post to push a teammate's shot over the line to make it a 1-1 game. She made it a 4-2 game awith an empty-net goal at 18:51 when she was released just in time from a hooking infraction, collecting the teammate's clear and skating in for the tally. On Sunday, Contini scored once while adding two assists in a 7-3 win. She assisted on the first two goals, as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead early in the second and then added a power-play goal in response a Friars short-handed goal just 41 seconds later.
Princeton begins league play this weekend, Oct. 28 & 29 at Brown and Yale.
