Volleyball Sweeps Cornell, Returns To Princeton In Sole Control Of First In Ivies
October 08, 2016 | Women's Volleyball
Senior co-captain Brittany Ptak posted 10 kills and six blocks, while reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Cara Mattaliano added nine kills and 15 digs, to lead the Princeton women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep of Cornell to complete a perfect road weekend in league play.
Princeton has now won nine straight matches, the most since the Ivy champion 2007 Tigers won 20 in a row, and they have won 13 consecutive sets in league play. Cornell forced Princeton to work for it in the third set, but the Tigers left Ithaca with a 25-16, 25-11, 25-23 victory.
While the senior co-captain duo of Ptak and Mattaliano led the way in this one, the starting freshman trio of Devon Peterkin, Maggie O'Connell and Jessica Harris completed another strong weekend. Peterkin and O'Connell combined for 10 kills, six blocks and six digs; Harris, making her third straight start, recorded 27 assists, nine digs and three kills in the victory.
Princeton (11-3, 5-0) will enter next weekend with a one-match lead on both Columbia and Yale, both of which won Saturday to improve to 4-1 in league play. The Tigers will host both Brown and Yale next weekend; both matches will be available on the Ivy League Digital Network.
