PRINCETON, N.J. (11/16/16) - The Princeton women's hockey team hosts No. 5 Colgate and Cornell this weekend, Nov. 18 & 19 at Hobey Baker Rink. The Tigers take on unbeaten Colgate on Friday at 6 p.m., at Cornell on Saturday at 3 p.m.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton split a pair of overtime games on the road last weekend, topping Harvard 2-1 before falling to Dartmouth 3-2 the next afternoon. The loss dropped Princeton from the top-10 rankings as the Tigers are now receiving votes in the national poll with a 4-3-1 overall record. The squad is 2-3 in the ECAC as it heads into just its second weekend at playing at home. Princeton is averaging 2.88 goals per game (13th) and is allowing 2.12 gpg (16th). The Tigers power play is 7 for 48 (15th) while the penalty kill has killed off seven of 42 (22nd). It's been balanced scoring as nearly every dressed player has a skater, 15 of 17. Sophomore Karlie Lund leads the team in scoring with six goals and four assists for 10 points. Senior Cassidy Tucker has net three goals and four assists for seven points. Seniors Molly Contini and Morgan Sly have three goals and three assists apiece, while senior defender Kelsey Koelzer has a team-high five helpers and one goal. Junior Alysia DaSilva has a .926 save percentage and a 1.97 as the only netminder the Tigers have utilized this season.
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Colgate is 12-0-1 on the season and is ranked No. 5 in the national poll. The Raiders are 5-0 in the ECAC with wins over Union, Rensselaer, Cornell, Yale and Brown. The Raiders strength of schedule however is 10th in the ECAC and 29th nationally with pairs of wins over UNH, Merrimack, RIT and going 1-0-1 with Syracuse. The squad averages 3.62 goals per game, fifth nationally, and limits squads to 1.38 gpg, sixth nationally. The power-play is third in the country converting 16 of 78 for 20.5 percent, while the penalty killing unit has killed off all but four of 49 penalties for 91.8 percent to rank fifth. Sophomore Jessie Eldridge has 22 points in 13 games on seven goals and 15 assists. Junior Annika Zalewski has 15 points on five goals and 10 assists, while junior defender Lauren Wildfang has four goals and 10 assists. Four others are in double digits in scoring. Sophomore Julia Vandyk is 10-0-1 in goal with a .948 save percentage and a 1.18 GAA.
PRINCETON/COLGATE SERIES
Princeton owns a 26-8-3 edge in the all-time series with Colgate and have won the last four meetings with a 3-2 win at Princeton and a 4-2 win in Hamilton during the 2015-16 season. The Tigers swept the 2014-15 series as well, as the Raiders last win came back in Feb. 2014, a 1-0 game.
SCOUTING THE BIG RED
Cornell is 5-2 overall and posted a 4-0 win over Brown and a 4-2 win over Yale last weekend. The Big Red has two losses in league play, both by one goal to Rensselaer and Colgate and are 3-2 in the ECAC overall. Cornell has the third-best scoring defense in the country, holding teams to 1.14 goals per game. The offense is expelling 2.43 gpg on the other end. The penalty kill is 33 of 37 (12th) while the power play is 4 of 31 (22nd). Freshman Kristin O'Neill and senior Hanna Bunton each have a team-leading eight points. O'Neill is the leading goal scorer with six tallies, while Bunton has a team-best five assists. Sophomore Pippy Gerace follows with four points, while three others have three points. Senior Paula Voorheis is 2-2 in goal and has played one more game than sophomore Marlene Boissonnault. Voorheis has a .943 save percentage and a 1.51 GAA, while Boissonnault has a 0.67 GAA and a .958 sae percentage with a 3-0 mark.
PRINCETON/CORNELL
The Tigers have a 44-33-3 lead in the series with Cornell. The teams split last season with Ithaca taking a heartbreaking 2-1 game in November before Princeton responded with a resounding 5-0 win in February. The previous year Princeton swept the Big Red.
