Princeton Trio Helps USA U-21 Team To Quarterfinals Of Junior World Cup

SANTIAGO, Chile – Maddie Bacskai, Cat Caro and Sophia Tornetta have helped advance the United States U-21 national team past pool play and into the quarterfinals of the women's hockey Junior World Cup.

The U-21 squad began play at the Junior World Cup with a 10-0 takedown over Zimbabwe last Thursday, racing out to a 7-0 lead in the first half before cruising to a win.

Caro registered the U.S. team's lone goal in a 5-1 loss to the Netherlands last Friday. The senior captain for the Tigers scored in the third minute, but the Netherlands converted four of their tallies off corners to secure the victory.

Facing a winner-take-all contest vs. Korea, the U.S. moved on to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 decision on Sunday. The USA jumped out to a 3-1 lead before holding on to finish second in its pool. The U-21 squad placed seventh in the 2013 Junior World Cup.

It's been an outstanding month for the Tiger trio as each player was named to the All-Ivy and All-Region squads. Caro was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year. The three also led Princeton to its seventh NCAA Final Four in program history.
