Caro and Dobrijevic Push Tigers In 6-1 Senior Day Win Over Penn
November 05, 2016 | Field Hockey
PRINCETON, N.J. – Seniors Cat Caro and Ellen Dobrijevic won't know if today was the last game of their careers until tomorrow, but if it is, they went out with a memorable finish.
Â
The No. 18 Princeton Tigers ran by the Penn. Quakers, 6-1 at Bedford Field on Saturday afternoon in the 2016 regular season finale. Caro and Dobrijevic combined for seven points to pace the Princeton offense.
Â
Princeton will hope to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as the 2016 NCAA Field Hockey Selection Show takes place tomorrow at 10 p.m. The show can be viewed here.
Â
Prior to today's contest, the program honored its three graduating seniors, Caro, Dobrijevic and Hailey Reeves. The Class of 2017 has won 43 games, three Ivy League titles, posted an .892 winning percentage in the Ivy League and has been part of three NCAA Tournament victories.
Â
Dobrijevic got her Senior Day off on a fantastic start as she deflected a sophomore Sophia Tornetta shot into the cage for her second goal of the season in the sixth minute. The Quakers answered back eight minutes later as Sophia Palacios recorded her seventh goal of the year off a dish from Alex Schneck.
Â
Less than 23 seconds after the Quakers tied the contest, Princeton went on the attack as junior Rachel Park ripped a shot by the Penn goalie on the next possession down the field. The Tigers got some offense going on a corner right before the half as freshman Maddie Bacskai blasted an attempt in to make the score, 3-1. The Tigers finished the first stanza with a two-goal advantage and 8-4 lead in shot attempts.
Â
Junior Ryan McCarthy continued the scoring in the second half for the home team….
Â
The Tigers added two more with under two minutes to go in the game. After coming into the game with two goals in her career, Dobrijevic topped off her final regular season game with her second tally of the contest. Caro posted her 15th goal of the year right before the clock expired to cap the scoring. Tornetta had a career-high three assists while freshman Grace Baylis made three saves in the victory. Princeton snagged its 10th win and improved to 5-2 in the Ivy League. Penn dropped to 11-6 and 4-3 in the conference. Â
