Tigers Win 10 Events at Metro Season Opener

Results
The Princeton men's track & field team opened the 2016-17 indoor season winning 10 events at the Metro Holiday Opener on Friday evening in Staten Island.

Junior Carrington Akosa won both the 60 and 200 and was the first leg on the winning 4x400 relay.

Three Tigers advanced to the finals of the 60 and they went in that order with Akosa posted the only time under seven seconds at 6.84 followed by sophomore Josh Billington at 7.06 and senior Brent Albertson at 7.08. Akosa went on to clock a 21.53 in the 200 to take top honors – more than one second faster than the other 37 competitors. Bullington was third at 22.62 and junior Max Schwegman was fifth at 22.84.

Junior Josh Ingalls was the runner-up in the 500 as he ran 1:05.39. Sophomores Cole Bransford and Franklin Aririguzoh finished fourth and fifth, respectively at 1:05.77 and 1:05.89.

Akosa and Bransford, along with Joshua Freeman and Connor Matthews brought the 4x400 relay to victory at 3:21.55, besting Wagner by .32 of a second.

It was a photo finish in the 1000 and junior Jared Lee came out on top, besting Holy Family's Taurai Augustin 2:35.04 to 2:35.08. Junior Eric Schulz reached fifth with a time of 2:36.46.

Fresh off of cross country season, distance runner junior William Paulson won the 3k at 8:22.60. Paulson who was second at Ivy League Heps was 19 seconds ahead of the rest of the pack as classmate Rob Stone was second at 8:41.76.

In the 60 hurdles, freshman Joey Daniels and Wagner's Dylan Beard tied for first place with matching times of 8.14.

Senior Xavier Bledsoe put on a show in the high jump as all jumpers bowed out at 1.94, Bledsoe took his first jump at that height and successfully clear on his first attempt. He reached 2.10 (6-10.75) before he was unable to get over 2.14 on his three attempts.

Meanwhile junior August Kiles was doing the same in the pole vault. His first attempt was 4.65 – a mark no one else in the field reached. He eventually made 5.10 (16-8.75) to take the win.

The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the shot put with senior Chris Cook lead the fray with a throw of 17.31 (56-9.5). He reached that distance on both his third and fourth throws. Junior Mitchel Charles found 16.58 (54-4.75) on his first attempt for second place and senior Jared Bell threw to 15.87 (52-1) for third place.

The throwers kept things going in the weight throw, as Princeton claimed the top two places. Sophomore Adam Kelly threw a bomb of 20.66 (67-9.5) on his second attempt for a more than 13 feet difference from the rest of the 17 throwers. Senior Vic Youn took second at 16.67 (54-8.25).

Princeton will be back in action on Sunday, Dec. 11 when it hosts the New Year Invitational at Jadwin Gym. The meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m.
