December 08, 2016 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
PRINCETON, N.J. (12/9/16) – Princeton hosts its first indoor track & field meet of the season on Sunday, Dec. 11 at Jadwin Gym when it welcomes five area teams for the New Year's Invitational. Attending the meet are Monmouth, Penn, Rider, Rutgers and The College of New Jersey.
Last weekend the Tigers opened the season at the Metro Holiday Meet in Staten Island. The women's team won six events with five Tigers recorded personal bests. Sophomore Maia Craver clocked a PR in the 200 as she won the event at 24.83 - the only sprinter to run under 25 seconds. She also put up a PR in the prelims of the 60 hurdles with an 8.75 but elected not to compete in the finals. Instead it was sophomore Ellie Randolph that took the title in the hurdles with PR of 8.80. Randolph went on to win the long jump with a jump of 5.44. The 4x400 relay also put up a victory as did Julia Ratcliffe in the weight throw.
The men's team had an equally impressive afternoon, winning 10 events. Junior Carrington Akosa won both the 60 and 200 and was on the first leg of the winning 4x400 relay. He ran 6.84 in the 60 and a PR of 21.53 in the 200. Junior Jared Lee took the 1000 at the line at 2:35.04, while junior William Paulson won the 3000 with a time of 8:22.60. Freshman Joey Daniels posted a rare tie for first in the 60 hurdles at 8.14. In the field events, senior Xavier Bledsoe cleared 2.10 to win the high jump and junior August Kiles won the pole vault with a height of 5.10. The Tigers went 1-2-3 in the shot put with senior Chris Cook lead the fray with a throw of 17.31 (56-9.5). The throwers kept things going in the weight throw, as Princeton claimed the top two places with sophomore Adam Kelly hitting 20.66 for the win.
