Wong, Neff Named To USA U-19 National Squad

PRINCETON, N.J. – Sophomore Elise Wong and incoming freshman MaryKate Neff '21 has been selected to the United States U-19 National Team, USA Field Hockey announced today.
Wong was second team All-Mid-Atlantic region and honorable mention All-Ivy this season, adding seven helpers for the Tigers. The Tigers ranked inside the top-20 nationally in goals-against-average (17th, 1.61) and posted four shutouts this season. In Princeton's 8-0 victory over Towson, the backline did not allow a shot, marking the second time in back-to-back years that the team accomplished that feat. Princeton's defense was fantastic in Ivy League play, allowing just 3.9 shots per game and eight goals total. The Tigers had three shutouts in the Ivy League.
Princeton was well-represented on the national stage in 2016 as three former players and four current members played on U.S teams. Katie Reinprecht '13, Julia Reinprecht '14 and Kathleen Sharkey '13 were named to the Olympic squad that placed fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympics. It was the team's highest finish since 1996. Maddie Bacskai, Cat Caro and Sophia Tornetta helped the U-21 team to the quarterfinals of the women's hockey Junior World Cup and the silver medal at the Junior Pan American Games.
Incoming freshman Grace Brightbill '21 was also in training camp with the U-19 squad.
Princeton went 12-8 in 2016 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the ninth straight season. The Tigers received an at-large bid to the tournament for the first time in program history and reached the Final Four for the seventh time.
