Indoor Track & Field Heads to Fasttrack National Invitational
February 11, 2016 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
The Princeton track & field teams head to the Fasttrack National Invitational on Friday, Feb. 12 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island.
The meet begins at 1 p.m., with the 3,000 meter run as well as pole vault and long jump in the center of the oval.
Last weekend, the Princeton men took fourth place at the Villanova Invitational held at the same facility. The Tigers earned 65.5 points in the nine-team invitational.
For the second time this season, freshman Charles Volker has run a school record of 6.79 in the 60-meter dash. Volker, who set the mark at the New Year's Invitational at Jadwin Gym in December, won the event today at 6.79 after a 6.89 in the prelims. Senior Daniel McCord was victorious in the 200. He clocked 21.72 to out kick Penn's Calvary Rogers by three-hundreths of a second for the win. The 4x400 relay of McCord, junior Ray Mennin, sophomore Josh Freeman and freshman Christian Fryer-Davis claimed first place. The 3:15.05 is the fastest time run by a Princeton 4x400 relay this season.
The women's team took third at the Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State last weekend. Two big records were met as junior Allison Harris set the Ivy League record in the event clearing 4.20 (13-9.25). Harris bests Tory Worthen's record of 4.12 (13-6.25) from 2012. It wasn't the only highlight of the meet as another record came from senior Taylor Morgan in the pentathlon. She set a Princeton record in the penathlon as she won the five-event competition with 4,050 points. She is the first Tiger to accumulate over 4,000 points in the pentathlon and surpasses she personal best of 3,923. Princeton also had wins by Katie Hanss in the 800, Melinda Renuart in the 3,000 and Ashley Forte in the 600 - an event Princeton earned its largest number of points in, 19.
