Four Tigers Score in Double Figures as Tigers Get By Yale, 94-81

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Princeton women's basketball team (18-4, 7-1 Ivy) used an outstanding offensive shooting performance (33-of-58, 56.9 percent) to get by the Yale University Bulldogs (11-15, 2-7 Ivy), 94-81 at the Lee Amphitheater on Friday evening.
Senior Alex Wheatley tied her career high with 22 points while adding four rebounds and two assists. Senior Amanda Berntsen was 7-of-10 from the field (70 percent), scoring 20 points while senior Michelle Miller added 16 points, four assists and three rebounds. Miller also surpassed the 200 career three-pointer milestone in the game. Senior Annie Tarakchian registered her 17th career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Tarakchian began the contest with a perfect first quarter, making all four shot attempts including two three-pointers, scoring 10 points as the Tigers led 23-18 after 10 minutes of game action.
After the Bulldogs scored the first basket of the second stanza, the Tigers went on a 27-8 run to end the half. Princeton allowed just three baskets to Yale in the second quarter, outscoring the home team by 17. The Tigers shot 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) in the first half including a spectacular 63.6 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-11).
Princeton would keep its distance in the third quarter before a 9-0 spurt by Yale cuts its deficit to 11, 62-51 with 3:56 to go. Back-to-back baskets by Miller and junior Vanessa Smith would push head coach Courtney Banghart's team's advantage back to 15.
In the final frame, the Bulldogs got within 10 on three occasions before finally getting within single digits on a layup by Tamara Simpson to set the score at 76-68 with 4:53 remaining. Four straight points by the Tigers made the game a 12-point contest. Yale would not get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.
Game Notes:
- Tonight's 94 points matched a season high as the Tigers also scored 94 in a win vs. Duquesne (Nov. 15). Princeton is 3-0 when scoring at least 90 points and is 8-1 when scoring at least 80. The Tigers also scored 50 points in a half for the first time since the Duquesne contest.
- In each matchup against Yale this season, the Tigers had four players score in double figures.
- Princeton shot at least 50 percent in each half, going 18-of-28 (64.3 percent) in the first 20 minutes and 15-of-30 (50 percent) in the second half.
- The Tigers' 82 points from their starters tied their season-high.
