![]() Princeton led by as many as 23 points in the first half before Dartmouth made a run before halftime to cut it to 11 at the break, and the Tigers' margin stayed in that area the rest of the night. Princeton outshot Dartmouth 53.8 percent to 37.3 percent and hit 13 3-pointers to Dartmouth's five. Steven Cook had a big night again after his 21-point output against Harvard, putting in 27 points to raise his season high once again on the way to sharing Ivy League Player of the Week honors. |

• While the Tigers stand at 4-1 in the Ivy, they enter the weekend looking up at two teams in the league standings, with Columbia at 5-1 and Yale at 6-0. Princeton has the chance to jump Columbia with Saturday's head-to-head matchup, but the Bulldogs have it in their hands to stay unbeaten if they can get through the trip to Dartmouth and Harvard.
• Princeton swept seven straight Cornell trips from 1994-2000, a span that includes Mitch Henderson's tenure as a player. Over the last 15 years, however, the trip has been trickier, with just six sweeps (2002, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2013, 2014), five splits (2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2015) and four winless trips (2001, 2007, 2008, 2009). Of the five splits, the loss was at Cornell four times, except in 2006.
• A sweep would put Princeton in its best position at the halfway mark since the Ivy title season of 2011, when Princeton was 7-0 at the turn. Princeton's best standing seven games into the Ivy season since then was in 2013, when the Tigers, at 5-2, went on to lead the Ivy race entering the final weekend. Unlike 2013, however, if the Tigers can get through this road weekend unscathed, it would leave Princeton at 6-1 with five of its final seven games at home. That year, Princeton built its 4-1 Ivy start before enduring seven of the last nine games on the road.
• Friday's game will match the Ivy's top scoring offense (Princeton at 78.9 ppg overall) against the Ivy's No. 8 scoring defense (Cornell, 77.5 ppg allowed). When the Tigers faced Brown, which is currently seventh at 77.4 ppg allowed, Princeton left Providence with an 83-59 win. Cornell ranks No. 1 in the Ivy in steals per game at 8.0, but the Tigers have fared well in ball security, leading the league with a +2.21 turnover margin that is well ahead of Cornell's second-best +1.5 turnover margin. The Big Red's top two scorers, who are also the top two scorers in the Ivy, have a nine-point-per-game gap over anyone else on the team. Junior 6-2 guard Robert Hatter (18.7 ppg) hasn't scored more than five points in any of his three games against Princeton (one DNP as a freshman) and freshman 6-3 guard Matt Morgan (18.6 ppg) will be playing against the Tigers for the first time.
• Cornell has been a tough place to play for Princeton in recent seasons, going 2-2 over the last four years. Last year, Princeton was 4-1 heading to Ithaca and lost 68-60 after shooting 32.7 percent from the field and getting outrebounded 36-29. A couple of important notes for the Tigers are that the trip to Cornell is first this year, not second after Columbia, and that the top scorers this year probably will look very different than last year's visit. Cornell returns only 23 of its 68 points and none of its top three scorers (Pat Smith, who had 10 points in last year's game, is Cornell's top returning scorer from that contest), and Princeton brings back 30 of its 60. Henry Caruso, who is averaging 16.7 points a game to lead the Tigers and stand fourth in the Ivy, had just a point in nine minutes of play in last year's game, and Cornell's Robert Hatter, who averages an Ivy-best 18.7 points per game, had just five points in 28 minutes off the bench.
• If the season-long stats are an indication, in Saturday's game look for both teams to fire from the perimeter. Columbia is averaging an Ivy-best 10 3-pointers made per game while Princeton is just about there at a second-best 9.7 made 3s per game. The Tigers boast the best 3-point shooter in the Ivy by field goal percentage in Henry Caruso (.519, 28-54), while Columbia's Maodo Lo has made the most 3s in the Ivy this season, making 65 (of 170 tries, a .382 clip). The teams are also right next to each other in 3-point field goal percentage, with Columbia third in the league at .375 and Princeton fourth at .371. Columbia's fourth in the Ivy at defending the 3 (.343) and Princeton is eighth at .368. That said, the Tigers haven't made more than nine 3s in any of the six consecutive wins at Columbia, nor have they tried more than 17. Princeton has made at least 10 3s 11 times in 19 games this season, including in each of the last three games, and the team is averaging 26 3s attempted.
• Princeton's Class of '09 went winless at Columbia's Levien Gym. Since, Princeton has won six in a row in Morningside Heights and has shot a combined .513 from the field and .475 from 3-point range over those six games. Last year, the Tigers shot .542 from the field (26-48) and .600 (9-15) from 3 in their visit to Columbia. This season, the Lions are allowing opponents a .433 clip from the field and .343 from distance. Of Princeton's 74 points from last year's game at Levien, 38 are back, but Caruso accounted for only two of those. For Columbia's part, the Lions have 60 of their 62 points back with leading scorer Maodo Lo (15.7 ppg this year) turning in a game-high 21 points in the Tigers' 12-point win.
• Both Cornell and Columbia have multiple non-conference opponents in common with Princeton. Both the Tigers and Big Red beat Lafayette and Saint Peter's, and both the Tigers and Lions beat Bucknell and lost to Saint Joseph's and Stony Brook.
• Though they'll only overlap a year in college, Cornell's Robert Mischler and Princeton's Devin Cannady both are alums of Marian High School in Mishawaka, Ind.
• Through Monday's games, Princeton's RPI was 64th, three spots behind Yale's at 61. The Tigers were 52 spots in front of the next-closest Ivy team, Columbia at 116.
• Through Monday's games, Princeton was the winningest team in New Jersey over Mitch Henderson's four-plus seasons guiding the Tigers. His 88 wins were two more than Seton Hall's 86 as the next-most wins over that span.
• Under Mitch Henderson, the Tigers now have a 34-29 (.540) record in the pre-New Year portion of the schedule and a 54-22 (.711) record from Jan. 1 forward.
• Princeton has made at least half its field goal tries nine times this season, including in both games last weekend, and Princeton has shot .400 or better from the field 15 times in the season's 19 games. The Tigers are 13-2 in those games (loss vs. Maryland, at Yale). The Penn game was the first and only time this season Princeton won without shooting at least .400 from the field.
• Princeton has made 10 3-pointers in a game 11 times this season, including in both games last weekend.
• Junior Henry Caruso, who is shooting .572 from the field on the season, has made at least half his field goal tries in 15 of the 19 games this season. Princeton is 12-3 when Caruso makes at least half his tries and 2-2 when he doesn't.
• Princeton enters Saturday's games as the top team in the Ivy in scoring offense (78.9 ppg), turnover margin (+2.21), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) and defensive rebounding (.771). Individually, Princeton has the Ivy's top free throw shooter in Devin Cannady (.885), the top 3-point shooter by percentage in Henry Caruso (.519, 28-54) and has the league's top player in assist-to-turnover ratio, with Spencer Weisz at 3.4.
• Entering Tuesday's games, Princeton was in the top 10 percent nationally (top 34) in six statistical categories, including two national No. 2 rankings in fewest total fouls (332, UCF 327) and fewest total turnovers (208, Temple 206). The Tigers were also 18th in 3s per game (9.7), 29th in turnovers per game (10.9) and 34th in both assist-to-turnover ratio (1.39) and scoring margin (+11.4). Individually, Henry Caruso, Pete Miller and Spencer Weisz combined for seven top-250 national statistical rankings, led by Weisz's 15th-ranked 3.4 assist-to-turnover ratio.
• Under Mitch Henderson, Princeton has scored 90 points in a game six times. That's more than all other post-Pete Carril coaches combined and the fourth-most under a coach in program history. Princeton scored 90+ 21 times under Pete Carril, 18 times under Butch van Breda Kolff and 11 times under Cappy Cappon.
• Princeton's top six scorers - Henry Caruso, Steven Cook, Devin Cannady, Spencer Weisz, Amir Bell and Pete Miller - have scored 1207 of the team's 1499 points this season, or 80.5 percent.
• The number of 3-pointers Princeton makes hasn't been a predictor of wins so far this season. The Tigers are 8-3 when they make at least 10 3s and 6-2 when they make fewer than 10.
• Princeton's juniors (Caruso, Cook, Miller, Rayner, Weisz) have scored 859 of the team's 1499 points, or 57.3 percent. Players who are able to return next year have scored 99 percent of the team's points (1484 of 1499).
• Princeton has had seven double-doubles this season, including three in one game at Lipscomb, the first time that has happened in program history. Princeton's seven double-doubles this season, by four players (Caruso 3, Cook, Miller, Weisz 2) have already surpassed last year's five, which were all by Hans Brase. Princeton had seven double-doubles by four players in 2013-14 and 10 double-doubles by three players in 2010-11. Twenty-six double-doubles, by the 1964-65 and 1966-67 teams, is the program record.

• Entering Tuesday's games, Cornell's top national statistical ranking was 34th in steals per game, at 8.0. Individually, Robert Hatter had the team's top national statistical ranking, standing 56th with 18.7 points per game. Columbia's top national statistical ranking was its 19th-most 229 3s made. Individually, Maodo Lo's 55 steals ranked 10th in the nation.
• The fivesome of 6-9 David Onuorah, 6-7 Jordan Abdur-Ra'oof, 6-2 Darryl Smith, 6-3 Matt Morgan and 6-2 Robert Hatter have accounted for 91 of Cornell's 100 starts across the 20 games. Hatter, the team's leading scorer on the season at 18.7 ppg, missed both Columbia games and the Harvard-Dartmouth road sweep and returned last weekend in a reserve role, scoring 19 points on 7-of-22 shooting at Brown before being limited to just 1 of 9 from the field at Yale.
• 6-3 Maodo Lo, 6-3 Grant Mullins, 6-10 Luke Petrasek, 6-7 Alex Rosenberg and 6-4 Kyle Castlin account for 94 of Columbia's 115 starts over the Lions' 23 games. Rosenberg missed five games in December and January, but the Lions went 4-1 in those games with the loss coming at Stony Brook.

Mitch Henderson '98 is in his fifth season as Princeton's head coach. His overall record at Princeton is 88-51. Under Henderson, Princeton is 49-11 at home, 41-20 in the Ivy League, and 25-5 in the Ivy League at home. Princeton is 72-17 when leading at the half under Henderson. Henderson is the first Princeton coach since John Thompson III '88 (2000-04) to have winning seasons in each of his first four campaigns. He is the sixth Princeton coach to accomplish that, following Frederick Leuhring (1912-20), Butch van Breda Kolff '44 (1962-67), Pete Carril (1967-96), Bill Carmody (1996-2000) and Thompson III '88 (2000-04). Henderson is in seventh place on the Princeton all-time wins list. Bill Carmody, who was a Princeton assistant for Henderson's first two seasons and head coach for Henderson's last two, is in sixth place with 92 wins. Carmody hired Henderson as an assistant coach at Northwestern in 2000, where Henderson remained for 11 seasons until coming to Princeton. Henderson was a second-team All-Ivy Leaguer in 1998, an honorable mention All-Ivy Leaguer in 1997, and was a two-time Ivy Rookie of the Week in 1994-95. Henderson graduated as the fourth-leading assist man in program history (kept since 1974-75) and is now sixth, having been surpassed by two of his players, Ian Hummer '13 and T.J. Bray '14. Henderson graduated fifth in career steals (kept since 1974-75) and is now ninth, having been passed by former teammate Gabe Lewullis '99, Will Venable '05, Marcus Schroeder '10 and his former player T.J. Bray '14. Henderson is one of six Princeton alumni who are current Division I head coaches, including John Thompson III '88 (Georgetown), Joe Scott '87 (Denver), Mike Brennan '94 (American), Chris Mooney '94 (Richmond) and Sydney Johnson '97 (Fairfield). |
