Meet The Class Of 2020: Maddie Bacskai and Krista Hoffman

PRINCETON, N.J. – After winning its 11th Ivy League title in 12 seasons, the Princeton field hockey team will welcome the Class of 2020.
"We needed talent and a diverse skill set to fill the very big shoes left by our great class of 2016," said head coach Kristen Holmes-Winn. "I feel confident that the class of 2020 is up to the challenge. They are a well-rounded group of scholar-athletes who each bring a unique playing perspective that will add depth and interest to our already robust squad. We are thrilled to announce and welcome the class of 2020."

Maddie Bacskai
High School: Episcopal Academy (Pa.)
Club: WC Eagles
Kristen Holmes-Winn: "Maddie stands out because of her unusual level of composure and understanding of the game. Her ability to eliminate, power and ruthless, defensive mentality make for a particularly threatening combination. Maddie's hockey foundation is second to none. She has extensive international experience playing with both the U17 and U21 national teams as well as with the top club in the country, the WC Eagles. Maddie will bring instant maturity and presence to our backline. There is no question, Maddie will be an exceptional collegiate player.Â

I wanted a school with exceptional academics and a strong field hockey program.
What excites you the most about playing hockey at Princeton?
I'm excited the most part about being surrounded by an amazing group of teammates and having a coaching staff that will push me to the next level.
Most memorable club or high school game?
My most memorable high school game was my PAISSA state championship game last season.
Any pre-match ritual or superstitions?
I have to do my hair the same way for each game.

I'd go to Ireland

Kristen Holmes-Winn: "Krista joined the Princeton Field Hockey Club last fall and it has been exciting to see her grow her technical base as well as apply new knowledge to the game. Krista's positive mindset toward learning and improvement, combined with her work ethic and competitive nature make her absolutely invaluable to a team. We have thoroughly enjoyed watching Krista grow over these last few years and look forward to her time at Princeton."
Why Princeton?
Princeton has been my dream school for as long as I can remember. The camaraderie that Princeton students and alumni have is unbelievable. Also, the chance to play field hockey at a high level with great players, coaches and to earn my degree at a remarkable university is an amazing opportunity.Â
What excites you the most about playing hockey at Princeton?
The coaches and the team dynamic. Every time I step onto campus the coaches make me feel so welcome and they are incredibly motivating to all of their players. The team is like a family and to play with and against some of the best field hockey players in the country is awesome. Â
Most memorable club or high school game?
Playing against Shawnee's rival, Moorestown High School and against my teammate, Susan Orth, my senior year. After regulation time and overtime, the result stood at a tie of 5-5.Â
Any pre-match ritual or superstitions?
Having a consistent warm-up and taking a deep breath before taking the field.
You win an all-expenses paid trip anywhere in the world – what are you doing?
I'm taking a tour around the world visiting countries on my bucket list such as Spain, Italy, Japan, and Australia and trying lots of food.
