June 27, 2016 | Field Hockey
LONDON – Three former Tigers, Julia Reinprecht '14, Katie Reinprecht '13 and Kathleen Sharkey '13 along with performance analyst and former Tiger assistant coach, Nate Franks '07, helped the United States women's national field hockey team claim a bronze medal in the Champions Trophy tournament.
The national team defeated Australia, 1-0, in the shootout after finishing with a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation to win the bronze medal. It was just the second time in the bicentennial tournament's history that the United States finished with a medal (1995).
The U.S. team found itself down, 2-0 in the match vs. Australia, but rallied with two tallies in the second half to send the contest to a shootout.
In round robin play, the national squad picked up a victory over Great Britain before the win over Australia.
Team USA will compete one more time before departing for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. The USWNT will take on India (July 18th, 20th) and Canada (July 26th), in the Citi Rio Send-Off Series, at Spooky Nook Sports in Lancaster, Pa.
