Asom's Late Goal Gives Women's Soccer 1-0 Win Over Nova

PRINCETON, N.J. (8/28/16) - Sophomore Mimi Asom's goal in the 80th minute was the decisive factor as the Princeton women's soccer team earned a 1-0 victory over Villanova on Sunday, Aug. 28 on Myslik Field at Roberts Stadium in an ESPNU televised contest.
The Tigers' offense had been working hard all night and outshot Villanova 14-6. Tyler Lussi alone had nearly as many shots as Villanova, with five. It was partner Asom that found the back of the net at 79:31 as she collected a Samantha McDonough through ball and sent it into the lower right corner. It marked her second tally of the weekend, and the second assist of the weekend for midfielder McDonough.
Princeton's best chance of the first half was an arcing shot by Natalie Larkin that had to be stopped with a diving save by Wildcat keeper Emma Meyer in the 30th minute. The Tigers had another great opportunity in the 58th minute when Vanessa Gregoire delivered a beautiful cross to the center of the box but the shot was by Courtney O'Brien was blocked by a defender.
Villanova's best chance to score came with 20 seconds left to play, but Natalie Grossi made her fifth save of the game on an Ida DiClemente shot to preserve the shutout and take the win.
Meyer made five stops on the other end for Villanova, which drops to 1-2 on the season.
Princeton, now 2-0, travels to Delaware on Friday, Sept. 2 for a 7 p.m., game.
