The Year That Was
- The Tigers went 11-7 last season and won its 11th Ivy League title in 12 seasons.
- Princeton defeated Maryland, 3-1, to advance to the program's 14th NCAA quarterfinals appearance before losing to the eventual national champion, Syracuse.
- Princeton had seven players make the All-Ivy League squads including Maddie Copeland '16 (Ivy Offensive Player of the Year), Sophia Tornetta (Rookie of the Year) and Holmes-Winn (Coach of the Year) picking up major awards.
- The team had five players named to the 2015 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Region squads.
- Copeland was selected to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-America third team.
- Carla Tagliente, formerly of UMass, was named head coach on June 29th.
- During her time at UMass, Tagliente averaged nearly 13 wins a year and guided the team to three Atlantic-10 titles. She was named A-10 Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
- Kristen Holmes-Winn stepped down as Princeton field hockey coach on June 20th to become the Vice President of Performance Science and Optimization for a company called "WHOOP."
- During her tenure, Holmes-Winn led Princeton to the 2012 National Championship, 12 Ivy League titles, 11 NCAA tournaments and a 164-80 overall (.672) and 86-5 Ivy (.940) record. In postseason play, the Tigers reached the NCAA quarterfinals seven times (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015).
- The Tigers will face six 2015 NCAA Tournament teams including two from the Final Four on its 2016 schedule.
- Tagliente's squad faces seven teams ranked inside the preseason top 20.
- Princeton has a stretch of four straight contests vs. nationally ranked opponents (Sept. 9-20) including a trip to No. 5 Virginia on Sept. 16.
- No. 1 North Carolina (Sept. 2), No. 9 Albany (Sept. 9), No. 6 Maryland (Sept. 20) and No. 4 Duke (Oct. 9) are the nationally ranked teams that travel to Bedford Field.
- Tornetta is the top returner as she finished with seven goals and nine assists (23 points). She placed second on the squad last year in goals, assists and points and was the Ivy League Rookie of the Year.
- Ryan McCarthy also netted seven goals and finished her All-Ivy second team season with 18 points including the overtime winner vs. Penn to cap off the regular season.
- Captain Cat Caro had an All-Regional campaign, scoring five tallies and dishing out four assists in 2015.
- Nicole Catalino made a stellar freshman debut as she added six goals for the Tigers last season.
- Elise Wong helped a sparkling backline for Princeton post three shutouts and allow just 1.4 goals per game against Ivy League opponents.
- Other returning players include Danielle Duseau, Rachel Park, Lexi Quirk, Sarah Brennan, Grace Baylis, Sarah Holland, Casey Swezey, Jane Donio-Enscoe, Ellen Dobrijevic and Hailey Reeves.
- The Tigers are 3-6 all-time against North Carolina.
- The Tar Heels took the inaugural meeting back in 1992, 3-1.
- Dropping each of the first four match-ups against UNC and getting outscored in those contests, 16-4, Princeton earned its first win over the Tar Heels on Oct. 31, 1998, 4-3 (ot).
- With the Tigers having taken three of the last five meetings, this year's showdown is a rematch of the 2012 NCAA Championship game, which Princeton won by a score of 3-2.
- Despite a pair of late goals and a career day from senior goalie Anya Gersoff, the 15th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team dropped its 2015 season opener to No. 2 North Carolina, 5-2.
- Netting four first half goals, the Tar Heels finished with a decisive 26-6 shot advantage and a 6-2 edge in penalty corners. Making 14 saves, Gersoff set a new career benchmark. Tornetta and Teresa Benvenuti accounted for the Tigers' two scores.
- The North Carolina field hockey team opened the season ranked No. 1 in both the national and Atlantic Coast Conference preseason polls.
- Seniors Emma Bozek and Julia Young have been named to the Preseason All-ACC Team.
- In the Division I Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) preseason poll, UNC received 915 points and 16 first-place votes. Syracuse, the defending national champion, received 25 first-place votes but a total of 898 points and starts the year ranked No. 2. Connecticut, Duke and Virginia round out the top five, giving the ACC four of the top five teams in the poll.
- Princeton is 4-1 all-time against Bucknell, having outscored the Bison 10-0 over the course of the first three meetings before dropping a hard-fought 1-0 overtime decision in 2014.
- Winning the inaugural match-up in 1989, 1-0, Princeton secured a pair of 7-0 and 2-0 victories in 2010 and 2011, respectively.
- Catalino netted a pair of goals to help lead the 20th-ranked Princeton University field hockey team to a 5-1 victory over Bucknell on Sept. 12, 2015.
- Avenging 2014 overtime loss to the Bison, the Tigers finished with a 16-4 shot advantage and held a 5-3 edge in penalty corners.
- Bucknell is 1-0 thanks to a 2-0 shutout win over Rutgers on Friday at Graham Field. Playing in her first collegiate game, freshman Brittany Willwerth scored the game-winning goal with an assist from sophomore Nicole Rupnik 24:24 into the first half. Fellow freshman Marisa Morakis tacked on an insurance goal with an assist from Emily Goodloe in the second half.
- Willwerth was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week after her terrific debut. She is the first Bucknell freshman to score in the season opener since Amanda Faust in 2005.
- Caro, Tornetta and freshman Maddie Bacskai were on United States U-21 women's national field hockey team that scored a silver medal at the Junior Pan American Tournament on Apr. 9.
- Katie Reinprecht '13, Julia Reinprecht '14 and Kathleen Sharkey '13 were named to the United States field hockey team that placed fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympics. It was the team's highest finish since 1996.
