Field Hockey Jumps to No. 10 in NFHCA's Coaches' Poll

NFHCA Coaches' Poll
PRINCETON, N.J. – Following two straight wins vs. top 20 teams, the Princeton field hockey team jumped to No. 10 in today's Montco/NFHCA's Division Coaches' Poll today. The Tigers were No. 16 last week and made the highest jump in the poll this week.

The 3-1 Tigers dropped then No. 12 Albany, 4-2, last Friday. Trailing 2-1, sophomore Sophia Tornetta registered the game-tying goal before assisting on junior Lexi Quirk's game-winner with 3:23 to go. On Sunday, Princeton took down then No. 10 Delaware, 4-2 as junior Ryan McCarthy recorded back-to-back tallies, giving the Tigers the lead with 11 minutes to go. Tornetta added an insurance goal for Princeton to puncture the victory.

With a seven-point weekend, Tornetta was named the Ivy League Co-Player of the Week and Suburban Transit GoPrincetonTigers.com Athlete of the Week. She is having a sparkling start to the season as she currently sits in the top 10 nationally in goals per game (eighth, 1.33) and points per game (ninth, 3.0).

The defending national champion, Syracuse, is the No. 1 team in the national poll, finishing with 881 voting points (31 first-place votes). Duke, North Carolina, Penn State, Connecticut round out the top five. Princeton will battle Penn State on the road (Oct. 2) before hosting Duke (Oct. 9).

With three straight victories, the No. 10 Princeton Tigers head to No. 14 Virginia on Friday (4 p.m.) before No. 7 Maryland travels to Bedford Field on Sept. 20 (6 p.m.).
