Season Recap: Princeton Regains Ivy Title, Reaches NCAA Quarterfinals

Behind seven saves from Grace Baylis and tallies from Ryan McCarthy and Clara Roth, Princeton picked up its first victory over a top-10 team, defeating No. 10 Maryland, 2-1, on the road on Sept. 19.

McCarthy played hero as she scored twice in the final 2:56 as Princeton came back with a 3-2 decision over Yale at Bedford Field (Sept. 29). With three minutes to go, the Tigers were awarded a penalty corner and the senior captain ripped a shot into the back of the cage to tie the contest. The Tigers kept peppering Yale's goalie Sydney Terroso with three more shots, before getting their 11th corner of the night as the clock ran out.

Carlotta von Gierke inserted to Julianna Tornetta, who stopped it for McCarthy. Her first shot blocked, but the senior dove for the loose ball that dribbled through for the game-winner.

Princeton shut down a high-powered Harvard offense in a 3-0 victory over the No. 15 Crimson on Oct. 21. Harvard came into the game, first in the Ivy League in goals per game (4.08) and fifth in the country, but it was shutout for the first time this season against Princeton. The shutout was part of a stretch where the Tigers did not allow a goal for over 248 minutes. With the victory, the Tigers improved to 5-0 in the Ivy League and was left as the lone undefeated squad.

In a thrilling contest, McCarthy's double-overtime goal capped an exhilarating 3-2 victory for Princeton over No. 5 Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (Nov. 11). For McCarthy, it was the sixth time in 2017 that she has posted a multi-goal game, giving her nine in the last seven contests. Baylis made a career-high 10 saves in the win.
