Women's Squash Team Caps Perfect Ivy Weekend With 8-1 Victory At Brown
February 05, 2017 | Women's Squash
After its stirring 5-4 road win at Yale Saturday, the Princeton women's squash team wasn't about to ruin its momentum as it began the championship month of February. The Tigers finished a perfect road weekend with an 8-1 win over Brown Sunday.
The fourth-ranked Tigers won 26 of the 31 individual games played, and six of the nine Princeton players posted 3-0 wins during the team's ninth win of the season. The top two players, seniors Maria Elena Ubina and Alexandra Toth, were both pushed in a couple of games, but neither allowed their opponent to extend the match to four games.
"Princeton had a strong showing, closing the weekend on a high and getting ready for next weekend's matches against Cornell and Columbia," Toth said. "Princeton's hard work did not go unnoticed this weekend."
Sophomore Isabel Hirshberg capped her own undefeated weekend by rallying from a 1-0 deficit to take her match in four games. She had to go deep in the fourth against Isabel Young, but she had the final answers in an 11-9 win.
"After a big win against Yale yesterday, we needed to focus extra hard today," Hirshberg said. "After some slow starts, we focused in on the basics of extending points to beat the bears who were all on their A game. We had a strong showing and will use the 8-1 win as momentum for two more matches next weekend."
Princeton plays twice next weekend, beginning with a Friday showdown at Cornell. The Tigers will honor their seniors on Sunday in the Ivy League finale against Columbia.
