Maryland Takes Down Princeton, 4-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Princeton Tigers were defeated by the Maryland Terrapins, 4-0, in game one of the three-game set at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Joseph Flynn had two hits in the game for the Tigers. Chris Giglio threw five shutout innings before the Terrapins scored four times in the sixth inning.
The Tigers had their first scoring chance in the second frame as Flynn doubled with two out, but was left stranded. Maryland had runners in scoring position in the second and third innings, but Giglio escaped with no runs scored. With one out in the fourth, the home team had runners on first and second, but Giglio picked off the runner at second base.
Maryland's Will Watson's RBI single in the sixth provided the game's first run. Two batters later, Kevin Smith hit a two-out three-run home run to put the Terrapins in front, 4-0.
Princeton had another scoring threat in the eighth with a runner in scoring position with two out, but couldn't not bring him home.
Watson had a game-high three hits to lead Maryland. Brian Shaffer struck out 10 hitters in eight innings in the win. The Tigers and Terrapins will get back into action tomorrow beginning at 2 p.m.
