Softball Team Sweeps Saturday from Long Island, Binghamton
March 25, 2017 | Softball
In the first game, three eighth-inning runs were enough for the Tigers to endure a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the bottom of the eighth for Long Island and wrap up the 12-10 win.
LIU led only in the first inning, when Victoria Zamora hit a solo home run. After that, Princeton took four leads only to see the Blackbirds battle back each of the first three times.Â
Donahey finished 4 for 6 in the opener while Mikayla Blaska and Keeley Walsh drove in three runs apiece. Marissa Reynolds had the only Tiger home run of the game, answering Zamora's solo shot in the top of the second.
Riley Wilkinson had the win in five innings of relief of Claire Klausner for Princeton, while Haley Irvis took the loss for LIU as the Blackbirds' third pitcher of the afternoon.
In the second game, Erica Nori, who threw a no-hitter last weekend against North Dakota, was perfect through 3 2/3 innings before Jessica Rutherford had what was Binghamton's only hit of the game. Nori struck out a career-high nine and walked just two along with the lone hit allowed in six innings before giving way to Ashley LaGuardia.
Allison Harvey tripled to bring home Blaska for the first run of a three-run first before Kaylee Grant doubled home a pair. Danielle Dockx made it 4-0 with a second-inning sacrifice fly, and Reynolds singled home a Blaska double to make it 5-0 in the fifth. Kaitlyn Waslawski added an RBI-groundout in the seventh to bring home Kylee Pierce after Pierce ran for Reynolds following a Reynolds double to start the inning. That hit capped a 3-for-3 game for Reynolds. Rozlyn Price took the loss for Binghamton.
Princeton will face the same two teams Sunday in the Tigers' last games before Ivy League play begins Friday against Brown at the Class of 1895 Field. The Binghamton game is set for a 10:30 a.m. start with the Long Island game at 3:30 p.m. Live stats can be found here.
