Going from 12-0 to 13-0 needed Amir Bell's drive to the rim as the final seconds ticked down Friday night. Completing the last step to become the 14th team in Ivy League history to go 14-0 didn't come down to the last minute.
With its 85-48 win over Dartmouth Saturday night in Jadwin Gym, the Princeton men's basketball team joined five other Tiger teams, most recently in 1998, and became the first team from any school since Cornell in 2008 to complete the Ivy gauntlet without a loss.
This year, of course, there is also the Ivy League Tournament, in which Princeton will be the top seed next weekend at The Palestra. The Tigers will open tournament play Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at The Palestra on ESPNU against fourth-seeded Penn. Princeton is assured of postseason play, with the NCAA berth going to the Ivy League Tournament winner and Princeton getting an NIT berth if it does not win the Ivy Tournament. Next Sunday's Ivy final is at noon on ESPN2, and Harvard and Yale will play the second semifinal Saturday at 4 p.m.
Spencer Weisz and Myles Stephens co-led the Tigers with 13 points apiece as Princeton led by as many as 43 points.
The Tigers broke it open with a 12-2 run midway through the second half, growing a nine-point lead to a 19-point edge at 32-13 with 7:41 before halftime and then closing the half on a 13-2 run to lead by 30 at the break, 52-22. Princeton's lead never dipped below 30 in the second half.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth 50 percent to 31.5 percent from the field and nailed 11 3-pointers while turning the ball over just four times. The Tigers, who lead the nation in fewest turnovers, committed just nine over the weekend to seal the unbeaten Ivy campaign. Dartmouth's Evan Boudreaux led all scorers with 15 points and nine boards, though the Tigers out-rebounded Dartmouth 42-33 on the night.
