It's playoff time for three Princeton teams this weekend, with NCAA championship participation the prize at the end of the line. To get there, Princeton will have to contend with the first-ever Ivy League basketball tournaments, to be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania, while the men's hockey team will be at Union College in the ECAC quarterfinals.
The Ivy League champion men's basketball team will play at fourth-place Penn Saturday at 1:30, and the second-place Princeton women will play Harvard at 6:30 in the fourth and final game of the day. The semifinals begin at 11 am Saturday as Ivy women's champ Penn takes on Brown, and second-seed Harvard and third-seed Yale will play at 4 in the other men's semifinal.
The championship games will be held Sunday, with the men at noon and the women at 4.
Should Princeton advance to either the men's or women's final, walk-up tickets would be available at the Palestra box office beginning Sunday at 11.
The men's hockey team won a thrilling best-of-three series against Colgate last weekend at Hobey Baker Rink, and as a result, the seventh-seeded Tigers earned the right to travel to No. 2 Union in the quarterfinals. The games will be played Friday and Saturday, with a deciding game Sunday if necessary, and face-off will be at 7 each night.
