Lord Wins Decathlon at Princeton Meet

PRINCETON, N.J. (4/20/17) - Freshman Harry Lord scored 6,504 points to win the decathlon on Thursday at Weaver Stadium in the 2017 Princeton Outdoor Multi-Event Meet.

Freshman Justice Dixon scored 6,414 points for second place. Freshman Philip Frost was fifth and former Tiger Tom Hopkins '14 was sixth – finishing nine events.

It was the first decathlon of the season for the Tigers, as the competitors faced off in five events on Wednesday and five on Thursday.

Lord claimed two first-place finishes, in the high jump and the javelin. He cleared 1.88 in the high jump and threw to 56.80 in the javelin. He was the runner-up in three events with a time of 52.86 in the 400, a throw of 33.57 in the discus and a vault of 3.98. Lord's long jump mark of 6.61 was third, his 1500 time of 4:42.18 was fourth. He crossed the line of the 110-meter hurdles at 17.07 for fifth and ran 12.02 in the 100 for sixth. His score of 6,504 ranks 21st in the East.

Dixon was in first place after Day 1 with 3,349 points. He was second in the 100, crossing the line at 11.25 and was third in the 400 at 50.75. He was fourth in the high jump (1.73), fifth in the shot (11.34) and sixth in the long jump (6.19). Dixon started Day 2 with a runner-up finish in the hurdles at 16.13 and a win in the discus, throwing to 37.26. He was third in the final three events: the pole vault (3.88), javelin (42.44) and the 1500 (4:41.04). Dixon's 6,414 points is the 23rd score in the East this season.

Frost's best event was the long jump as he launched himself to 6.70 to take second place. He was third in the high jump clearing 1.76. Frost was fourth in the 100 (11.33), 400 (51.51) and 110-meter hurdles (16.86).

Hopkins, competing for Santa Barbara Track Club, is one of the more prolific scorers in Ivy League Heps history, earning 25 first- or second-place finishes during his career to earn the Roper Trophy. Hopkins won the first four events on Wednesday with an 11.04 in the 100, a 7.19 in the long jump, a 13.29 in the shot put and a 47.67 in his specialty the 400.. He added another win on Thursday as he clocked 14.74 in the 110-meter hurdles. He was fourth in the javelin, fifth in the pole vault, sixth in the high jump, fouled in the discus and did not compete in the 1500.

Sophomore Ryan Ozminkowski competed on Day 1 and was in fourth place with 2,771 points in the five events.

Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational this weekend, April 21-22. The first event is at noon on Friday.
