Jamaica, N.Y. - The Princeton Tigers complete the non-conference portion of their schedule tomorrow as they travel to Jack Kaiser Stadium to take on the No. 22 St. John's Red Storm. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
The Week That Was:
- The Columbia Lions collected two Ivy League victories over the Princeton Tigers on Friday afternoon. The Lions held off the Tigers, 6-4, in game one and picked up a 5-4 decision in game two.
- After games were pushed back from Saturday to Sunday, the Lions recorded a 15-2 decision and 21-5 victory over Princeton.
- The fourth RBI of the day for Nick Hernandez helped Princeton rally in the ninth inning last Wednesday afternoon against Rider, and Mother Nature made sure neither team would lead again. After 3:22 of action on Clarke Field, daylight was gone and the midweek showdown between Mercer County opponents ended in a 7-7 tie.
- David Harding maintains the team's top batting average at .337. The freshman has 42 total bases, 13 runs and 15 RBI. He has seen time at second base and left field as well.
- Harding has been even better against Ivy opponents as he is currently hitting .388 in 15 games.
- Perhaps the most-steady bat in the Tigers' lineup, Nick Hernandez sits with a .321/.364/.466 slash line. He leads the team in RBI (22), total bases (61), slugging percentage and extra base hits (11).
- In the month of April, Jesper Horsted had posted a .333 average and a .389 on-base percentage. The outfielder raised his batting average 95 points this month and currently has a .258 average overall.
- Cody Phillips was great against Columbia, going 7-for-11 with three doubles.
- Princeton has five players hitting over .300 against Ivy foes with Harding, Hernandez and Asher Lee-Tyson each collecting 11 RBI.
- Two other major contributors on offense for the Tigers have been freshmen Conor Nolan and Ramzi Haddad.
- Nolan is hitting .263 this year with 24 total bases and a team-lead nine steals.
- Haddad has eight extra base hits along with 10 walks this year.
- In his last two starts, Chad Powers has struck out 13 hitters, allowing just three earned runs in 14 innings. Opponents are hitting .188 during that span while Powers has lowered his ERA from 4.40 to 3.63.
- Ben Gross has 3.95 ERA in eight starts for Princeton this season. He has punched out 39 hitters in 43 1/3 frames.
- Ryan Smith has appeared in 19 games in 2017, tied for the ninth highest for a single-season in program history. The sophomore has 33 strikeouts and four saves.
- The Red Storm are 29-5 this season and are No. 22 in the most recent Baseball America Top 25 poll. St. John's have two victories over top 10 teams (No. 9 Coastal Carolina and No. 7 North Carolina).
- St. John's is hitting .332 and is slugging .464. The team has also 41 stolen bases.
- The Red Storm have five players hitting over .370 including Jesse Berardi, who's hitting .409.
- Sean Mooney, a freshman, is 4-0 this season in 10 appearances. He has a 1.04 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 60 2/3 innings.
- Joe Kelly has been the Red Storm's best reliever as he sits with 0.63 ERA in 15 games.
