Volleyball Team Faces Challenging Final Weekend In Washington, DC, Before Ivy Play Begins

The reigning Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team will begin its chase for a third straight league crown next weekend, and the Tigers made sure to test themselves mightily in the final tuneup before Ivy play begins.
Princeton will head to the nation's capital this weekend to play three matches in the American Volleyball Classic, which opens Friday night with a 7 pm showdown against the host Eagles. On Saturday, Princeton will take on Howard (12 pm) and Iowa (5 pm); each match will have live stats available, while the American match will also be live streamed. All links are above.
Princeton (6-1) brings a five-match win streak into the weekend, which included a 3-0 performance at the Villanova Tournament last weekend. The Tigers were led by sophomore outside Natalie Skov, who averaged nearly 5.0 points per set over the week and earned her first Ivy League Player of the Week honor. Skov leads the Ivy League in points and ranks second in kills behind classmate Maggie O'Connell, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Year who is averaging 3.83 kills per set.
Sophomore Jessie Harris leads the Ivy League with 10.48 assists per set, which ranks inside the NCAA top 60, while senior co-captain Maddie Huber ranks second in the Ivy League and 35th nationally with 5.15 digs per set.
American University enters Friday's match with a 5-5 record, which included a perfect weekend at the Harvard Invitational at the beginning of September. The Eagles, who defeated Harvard 3-0 that weekend, are led by junior Kazala Aleksandra, who has 176 kills on the season, at least 100 more than any other teammate. Classmate Etheridge Kennedy leads team with 302 assists.
Howard, the reigning MEAC champion, has gotten off to a 2-8 start against a tough early schedule, including three matches in California. Khaila Donaldson is averaging 4.21 points per set and has started all 10 matches, while four players are producing at least 2.2 points per set.
Iowa, Princeton's final opponent before league play begins, is likely to be the Tigers' toughest opponent of the pre-Ivy slate. The Hawkeyes are 8-2, with one of its two losses coming against NCAA champion Stanford, and it enters the weekend having won seven of eight. Six players are averaging at least 2.0 kills per set, and the team is hitting .257 for the season, while holding its opponents to a paltry .163 mark. Gabrielle Orr ranks 24th in the NCAA w 11.37 assists per set.
