A 19th-minute goal from West Virginia's Vanessa Flores gave the No. 6 Mountaineers a 1-0 win over newly-ranked No. 20 Princeton Friday afternoon at Roberts Stadium.
The game came a year after Princeton traveled to WVU, also with a 6-0 start as they had this year, and fell 3-0 to the nation's second-ranked team and eventual NCAA finalist. In the rematch, the Tigers were competitive throughout, though WVU won the shot stat 16-7 overall and 4-0 on goal.
The WVU goal came off a corner kick with Flores ending up with a ball that she finished just under a diving Princeton keeper Nicole Grossi.Â
Georgetown, Virginia and Duke, all top-10 teams when they faced WVU, had been the only teams to hold the Mountaineers to a goal or fewer this season until Friday's trip to Princeton.
Both teams will return to Roberts Stadium Sunday, with WVU facing La Salle at 1 p.m. and Princeton following against Delaware at 4 p.m.
