Women's Golf Team Set to Open Fall Season Saturday at Penn State
September 18, 2017 | Women's Golf
The fall season will begin Saturday for the Princeton women's golf team as the Tigers return to the Penn State Nittany Lion Invitational for the first time since 2014.
Along with host Penn State, Princeton will compete alongside some familiar Ivy League foes, including Columbia, Harvard, Penn and Yale, giving the field five of the seven Ivy programs. Bucknell, Delaware, Maryland, Ohio, Rutgers, Seton Hall, South Florida and Youngstown State are in the field as well.
Princeton returns four of the five players from its NCAA East Regional lineup from a year ago, including sophomores Alison Chang and Maya Walton and juniors Tiana Lau and Amber Wang. Walton earned an individual bid to the NCAA Championships last year, the third Tiger in program history to do so, and Wang won the Ivy League individual title while earning first-team All-Ivy honors alongside Chang. Walton was a second-team all-league honoree as the Tigers put 31 strokes between themselves and Harvard to win the 2017 Ivy League title.
Lau, Walton, Chang, her freshman sister Anabelle Chang, and senior Tenley Shield will represent Princeton at this weekend's tournament, while junior Amanda Brown will be competing as an individual.
The Penn State event is set for 36 holes Saturday and 18 more Sunday on the school's Blue Course, which will measure 6,341 yards with a par of 72 for the tournament. Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day in a shotgun format, and live scoring for the event will be available via Golfstat here.
