Women's Squash Sets Up Top-3 Showdown Thursday With 9-0 Win Over Virginia
January 07, 2018 | Women's Squash
The Princeton women's squash team knew what was coming Thursday, but it didn't allow that to impact the team's performance on Sunday. Four days prior to a showdown between the third-ranked Tigers and the second-ranked Trinity Bantams inside Jadwin Gym, Princeton swept #13 Virginia Sunday afternoon in its first match of 2018.
Princeton remained undefeated (6-0) and didn't drop an individual game in the win over the Cavaliers. Sophomore Madison Soukup dropped only eight points in her win at the No. 8 spot, while All-America senior Olivia Fiechter gave up only nine points to remain perfect at the No. 1 spot.
The victory sets up an exciting week for the Tigers, with three matches slated for the Jadwin Courts. On Thursday, Princeton faces Trinity at 1 pm in match set for the Ivy League Network. Trinity has won three straight in the series, though the last meeting in Jadwin turned into a 5-4 thriller for Princeton.
The Tigers will also open the Ivy League season this weekend with home matches against both Brown (Saturday, noon) and Yale (Sunday, noon).
