Princeton Caps First Half Of Ivy Season With 3-0 Win Over Columbia
October 13, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
Another efficient offensive performance throughout the Princeton lineup, and especially from reigning Ivy League Player of the Year Maggie O'Connell, led the women's volleyball team to a 3-0 home win over Columbia Saturday night inside Dillon Gym. The win capped an exciting day for the program, as it raised a banner for former head coach Glenn Nelson, who led both the men's and women's programs to over 1,000 wins and several league championships (11 Ivy, 1 EIVA).
O'Connell recorded a team-high 11 kills and had only one error (.455), though two of her fellow starters also finished in the .400 territory in hitting percentage. Senior Caroline Sklaver had nine kills in 14 swings (.429), while fellow middle Clare Lenihan had five kills and only one error (.400). Devon Peterkin, a two-time Ivy League Player of the Week, had 10 kills and a team-best eight digs, while teammates Alex Underwood, Jessie Harris and Cameron Dames each had seven digs apiece.
Harris paced the offense with 31 assists, while Lenihan led all Princeton players with four blocks.
Princeton will return to Dillon Gym next Friday night when it faces Penn at 7 pm, a match you can watch live on ESPN+. That will begin the second half of the Ivy League season, which opens with Princeton and Yale sharing first place with matching 6-1 records.
