Tigers Ready to Repeat at Ivy Heps
October 24, 2018 | Men's Cross Country
The reigning Ivy League champions Princeton, coming off of a year in which it claimed its eighth triple crown, is ready to repeat. Hosting the Ivy League championship on West Windsor Fields, the men's 8k race is slated for a noon start.
The Tigers are ranked No. 28 in the latest US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national poll, the only Ivy League team in the top-10.
Last year Princeton won its 19th Ivy League Heps with all five scorers in the top 10 to post the lowest score at an Ivy Heps since the 1987 season.
Three of Princeton's five scorers from last year's Heps are back, including junior All-America Conor Lundy. Lundy has competed in every NCAA Cross Country Championship since he has arrived at Princeton. He has finished third in both Heps and ran a blistering 23:55.3 on this same course two weeks ago.
Junior Gannon Willcutts and Viraj Deokar are the two other returning scorers. Willcutts was ninth last year as the Tigers' No. 4 runner, while Deokar was 10th as the No. 5 runner. This is the third Ivy Heps for both all-Ivy League harriers.
Senior captain Jeremy Spiezio has experience in this race with his best finish being his freshman year when he was the No. 3 runner, taking 16th overall. He ran a 24:23.8 on this course just two weeks ago and should score for the team again this year.
Other potential scorers include sophomore Matt Grossman, junior Perrin Hagge and sophomore Ed Trippas.
