Volleyball Team Heads To Empire State For Final Road Weekend
October 31, 2018 | Women's Volleyball
The Princeton women's volleyball team will head to New York for its final two road matches of the regular season, and the Tigers know that while there is little margin for error, they are also still in the thick of the Ivy League race.
Princeton (15-6, 8-2 Ivy) enters the weekend in second place, one match behind Yale in the Ivy League standings with two weekends to play. Both squads are on the road this weekend, meaning Yale has the dangerous Harvard-Dartmouth road trip in front of it. Harvard was the team that tripped Princeton up early in the season for a 3-0 win in Cambridge, and the Tigers will be rooting for another Crimson home win this Friday night.
Of course, if Princeton doesn't take care of its own business, none of that will matter. The Tigers will take on Columbia Friday at 7 pm, and then will head to Ithaca to take on Cornell Saturday at 5 pm (links for both matches are below). Princeton defeated both at home earlier in the season, but the Tigers were swept during this home weekend during their 2017 Ivy championship season.

Princeton bounced back from a heartbreaking 3-2 loss at Yale last Friday with a convincing road win at Brown, and now the Tigers continue a four-match road trip with hopes of repeating their magical finish of 2017. Princeton faced this same scenario heading into the second-to-last weekend of the season back then — down one, four to play — and the Tigers took care of their own business and got the help they needed to get back into the title chase, which they would eventually win in a playoff.
The Tigers have been led by the 1-2 punch of Maggie O'Connell and Devon Peterkin, both of whom rank in the Top 3 in kills during Ivy League play. O'Connell also leads the league in hitting percentage in league play, while Peterkin leads the Ivies in kills and ranks 10th in digs. Junior setter Jessie Harris ranks sixth in the nation in assists, and she has guided Princeton to the most efficient offense in league play through 10 games.
