Princeton Set For 2018-19 Opener At Rider
November 05, 2018 | Women's Basketball
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers will get the 2018-19 season underway tomorrow against in-state rival, Rider, at Alumni Gym in Lawrenceville.
Â
Â
Here are a few things to watch out for in tomorrow's contest …
Â
Stella Johnson – Johnson was second-team All-MAAC last season for Rider, averaging a team-high 16.0 points per game. She finished the season with a flurry, securing over 20 points in four of the team's last five games and was a lights-out shooter from beyond the arc at 40.0 percent. When these two squads faced off two years ago, Johnson registered 20 points on 9-of-13 from the floor and added six steals in the win for the Broncs.
Â
Lexi Possett – The senior for Rider had a banner season in 2017-18, averaging career-highs in points (9.8), rebounds (4.6) and assists per game (3.3). She snagged double figures in scoring 13 times last year and was recognized with a conference preseason third-team accolade.
Â
Shooting – Rider shot 38.5 percent, which was fifth in the MAAC last season. Under head coach Courtney Banghart, Princeton has almost always ranked near the top of the country in field goal percentage defense and last season was no different. The Tigers held opponents to 36.8 percent from the floor, good for second in the Ivy League and 30th in all of Division I.
Â
Carlie Littlefield – The sophomore is looking for an even bigger role after being the team's starting point guard last season. "The biggest area I've been working on this year is using my voice to lead," said Littlefield at Media Day. Littlefield posted 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, not missing a contest in 2017-18. She also shot 35.1 percent from beyond the arc on over three attempts per game.
