CWSA Announcement
PRINCETON, N.J. – Elise Wong has been named a finalist for the Honda Sport Award, the organization announced today. Â
Â
She's the ninth Tiger in program history to be nominated as a finalist and the first since Katie Reinprecht won award in 2012.
The Honda Sport Award has been presented annually by the CWSA for the past 43 years to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA- sanctioned sports and signifies "the best of the best in collegiate athletics." The winner of the sport award becomes a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2019 Honda Cup which will be presented on a live telecast on CBS Sports Network on Monday, June 24, 2019, in downtown Los, Angeles.
The nominees were chosen by a panel of coaches representing the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). The Honda Sport award winner for field hockey will be announced next week after voting by administrators from over 1,000 NCAA member schools. Each NCAA member institution has a vote.
The first team All-American was part of a defensive unit that finished with the eighth lowest goals against average (1.17) in the country. The Tigers had six shutouts, five of which came in Ivy action. Princeton did not allow a goal for over 180 minutes of game time (Sept. 22-30) and just one in a four-game stretch (Sept. 22-Oct. 5). The Tigers did not give up a shot against Brown (Oct. 13) and allowed one attempt against Cornell (Oct. 27).
Â
Wong graduates as the 2018 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year, a four-time All-Region and All-Ivy player while securing two NCAA Final Four All-Tournament awards.
