Princeton did what it does best Sunday in the final session of the Bruno Invitational, and it was more than enough to clinch a team victory for the Tigers. The Orange and Black put a strong number of swimmers in the top five of their respective events Sunday to win the invitational by more than 100 points.
Princeton, which won the Big Al Open less than a month ago, grabbed another weekend win by scoring 1010 points at the Katherine Moran Aquatic Center. Columbia, which will see Princeton one more time next weekend, placed second with 902 points, while Johns Hopkins finished third with 644 points. Brown is serving the final month of its team suspension, but it will be back in its home pool when it hosts the Ivy League Championships in late February.
Princeton got good team points in the first individual event of the night, the 1650 free. Sophomore Levy Nathan placed second in 15:43.99, while freshman teammate Brendan Firlie took third in 15:44.30. Another sophomore added a second-place finish, as Wade O'Brien finished second in the 200 back in 1:46.10.
Senior co-captain Murphy McQuet took fourth in the 100 free (44.37), and then the trio of Tyler Lin (2:02.50), Tindar Cyr (2:02.64), and Daniel Arris (2:04.26) went 4-5-6 in the 200 breast. Princeton put three in the top five of the 200 fly as well; freshman Raunak Khosla finished second in 1:44.13, while junior Derek Cox (1:45.46) and senior Cole Buese (1:45.65) took fourth and fifth in the event.
The quartet of Joshua Brown, Christian Feiler, Buese and McQuet capped the weekend with a second-place finish in the 400 free relay in 2:56.84.
Princeton will conclude the 2018 portion of its season Saturday at 2 pm in New York City against Columbia.
