Kennedy Wins Two Events as Princeton Opens Outdoor Season in Florida

RESULTS
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (3/14/18) - Senior Kennedy O'Dell highlighted the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational with two wins and a fourth place finish in the throw events as the Princeton women's track & field team began the 2018 outdoor season.
O'Dell won the discus with a mark of 47.80 (156-10), landing it on her final attempt. Her three other countable throws of 46.52, 56.11 and 46.63 would have garnered her the win regardless. She continued to stay hot to win the hammer throw at 56.58 (185-7). All of her six attempts were over 52 meters as she had the five best throws out of the 99 throws attempted today. O'Dell also took fourth in the shot put with a 14.17 (46-6), coming on her second attempt.
Freshman Rylie Pease and sophomore Reese Schachne went 2-3 in the javelin with Pease throwing 44.69 (146-7) on her fifth throw. Five of her tosses her over 40 meters. Shachne's best was 41.20 (135-2) on her final attempt.
Also competing in the throws was freshman Julia Harisay who was third in the in the discus with a 42.94 (140-10) on her final attempt, while she took 10th in the javelin with a 33.41 (109-7).
Freshman Kara Steele doubled in both the long and triple jumps. She took fourth in the long jump with a 5.72 (18-9.25) on her opening jump. She also had jumps of 5.32, 5.22 and 5.28 and 4.92. She went on to take 10th in the triple at 11.25 (36-11), taking just three jumps in the event and hitting 11.12, 11.14 and 11.25
In the pole vault, freshman Alexandra Munson was fourth clearing 3.45 (11-3.75) on her second attempt. It was the only height she attempted, passing on the first three heights before hitting 3.45. She was unable to clear 3.60 on three tries.
Junior Kerri Davidson was the top Tiger in the triple with an 11.88 (38-11.75). She also found 11.66 while fouling on four attempts.
On the track the middle distance lit up the 800 going 4-5-6-7 in a race of 48 competitors. Senior Madison Offsten lead the pack of Tigers at 2:13.60. Freshman Sophie Cantine followed at 2:13.65, sophomore Madeleine Sumner at 2:13.99 and junior Alie Fordyce at 2:14.15. Fordyce then put up the best time for the Tigers in the 1500 at 4:29.65 as she faced off against 62 others. Offstein came in right behind her in sixth place at 4:30.17 and junior Gabi Forrest at 4:31.43. Junior Brighie Leach was also in the top 10 with a 4:33.51.
Princeton had four in the 2000 meter steeplechase, 1000 meters off the usually 3k. Junior Allie Klimkiewicz took second at 6:56.94, while Leach ran 7:02.30 for fourth, freshman Katherine Leggat-Barr 7:10.52 fifth and junior Mim Buscher 7:13.69 for sixth.
In the 400 hurdlers Princeton duo of Devon Block-Funkhouser and Carly Bonnet went 3-4 behind a pair from Clemson. Block-Funkhouser clocked 1:00.94 and Bonnet 1:01.53. Senior Maia Craver took ninth in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.48
Both of Princeton's 4x400 relays finished in the top 10. The A squad of Samanatha Anderson, Ashley Willingham, Heide Baron and Bonnet put up a 3:52.59 to take fifth. Cantine, Ashley Forte, Frances Lodge and Allison Glossinger were eighth at 3:56.95.
Princeton will send a select contingent to the Florida Relays on Saturday, March 31 with the first home meet of the season schedule for April 6-7, the Sam Howell Invitaional at Weaver Stadium.
