PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers, as the No. 1 seed, will look for an Ivy League Tournament Championship and the conference' automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament this weekend at the Palestra.
Â
On Friday, fans can attend Princeton's open shootaround at the Palestra. The Tigers will be on the court between 1:10-1:50 p.m.
Â
Fans who can't make the open shootaround can follow it on the Ivy League Network (ILN).
Â
Before we get started on the Ivy League Tournament, let's take one last look at the Brown/Yale weekend.
Â
The Princeton Class of 2018 - Â Senior weekend could not go any better as Princeton wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Ivy Tournament with an easy victory over the Brown Bears on Friday. In that game, Leslie Robinson recorded what is believed to be the first triple double in program history. The Tigers wrapped up the outright Ivy title the next night against Yale. In that contest, Kenya Holland matched a personal best with five treys (15 points) and grabbed a career-high six rebounds.
Â
Abby Meyers - The freshman guard deposited 18 points in just 14 minutes against Brown on an impressive 7-of-11 shooting from the floor. She finished the weekend with nine points and five rebounds vs. Yale on Saturday. She has eight double-digit scoring games in Ivy play.
Â
Brown Scoring - Shayna Mehta contributed 18 points for Brown. No other Bear scored in double figures. Princeton held Brown to its lowest field goal total (16) and field goal percentage (26.2) of the year.
Â
Brown's Defense - Princeton ran off with seven consecutive points and 13 of 15 in the first four minutes of the game. The Tigers led 23-7 after 10 minutes as Brown had just two baskets, going 2-of-13 (15.4 percent). Brown scored back-to-back buckets to get within 18, 33-15, with 3:58 to go in the first half and that would be as close as it would get … the rest of the game.
Â
Turnovers, Turnovers, Turnovers – The Tigers turned the ball over against Yale, one of the best in the country in steals, just 12 times. The Bulldogs converted 11 points off of turnovers as Princeton earned a hard-fought 64-53 victory.
Â
On to the Ivy Tournament …
Â
Bella Alarie – What a week it's been for the sophomore. Monday – Ivy Player of the Week (no big deal), Wednesday – Ivy Player of the Year (that is a very big deal). She's just the eighth sophomore in Ivy history to receive the award. Alarie was outstanding in the Ivy League Tournament last year as she was named to Ivy League All-Tournament team as she recorded consecutive double-doubles.
Â
Leslie Robinson – After consecutive two-point games vs. Georgia Tech (Nov. 19) and Davidson (Nov. 25), the senior captain has been excellent for Princeton. Over the last 23 games, Robinson is averaging 10.7 points on 47.2 percent shooting, 7.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She finished the regular season with 120 assists, good for sixth most in a single-season on the all-time list.
Â
Penn – The 2017 and 2016 Ivy Champions will be the No. 2 seed in the tournament and on their home floor. The Quakers come in with one of the best defenses in the country, sitting 11th overall at 54.5 points allowed per game. In its two victories over Penn this season, Princeton shot 42.0 percent and 35.7 percent from beyond the arc, averaging 65.0 points.
Â
Harvard – The Crimson are the No. 3 seed in the Ivy League Tournament. The Crimson, as a team, are one of the best three-point teams in the nation. Their 8.3 treys per game are 33rd and 34.7 percent from long distance is 71st. Harvard's top scoring threat is Katie Benzan, who was named first team All-Ivy on Wednesday. She averages 3.37 three-pointers per game, which is the 13th highest in all of Division I. Even more impressive is her 46.2 percent from long range, sixth best in the NCAA. The sophomore has had a successful season against Princeton, posting 12.5 points per game on 9-of-18 shooting and 6-of-11 from deep in two games.
Â
Yale – The Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed in the Ivy League Tournament and will play Princeton on Saturday at 6 p.m. The best attribute for Yale is its ability to force turnovers. The Bulldogs are the best in the conference in turnovers forced (19.6) and steals per game (10.4). Tamara Simpson is a two-time Ivy Defensive Player of the Year as she averaged 4.1 steals per game in Ivy League games, 2.0 more than any other player.
