Gross Throws Complete Game Shutout, Penn Picks Up Series Victory In Game 3

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton Tigers (8-16, 5-4 Ivy) took the first game of the doubleheader today at Clarke Field, 3-0, but the Penn Quakers (10-19-1, 5-6-1 Ivy) rebounded with a 10-1 decision in game two to earn the Ivy League series victory.
Game 1: Princeton 3, Penn 0
Ben Gross threw a complete game shutout, scattering nine hits and striking out seven. It's his first ever complete game shutout and the second complete game of his career. Jesper Horsted and Taylor Beckett had three hits each.

Max West followed by throwing out another runner attempting to steal second base to retire the side.
Joseph Flynn's knock right back up the middle in the bottom of the third gave Pricneto a 2-0 lead. A double play gave the Tigers their third run in the next inning.
In the sixth frame, Horsted made an impressive sliding grab to finish off the Quakers …
Matt O'Neill, Andrew Murnane and Matt Tola had two hits each for the Quakers. Brendan Beane struck out six Princeton hitters in the loss.
Game 2: Penn 10, Princeton 1
The Quakers banged out 18 hits and scored seven times over the first three innings to put the game out of reach. Seven different Tigers had a hit in the game as Horsted got on base three times.
Already with two runs across, Murnane's two-run single made the score 4-0 Penn in the top of the first inning. Peter Matt's RBI single made it 5-0 one batter later. Matt also homered to lead off the third inning. A two-run blast from Matt McGeagh in the sixth and run-scoring single from Chris Adams in the seventh completed the scoring for Penn. A double play in the top of the ninth gave the Tigers their only run.
Five different Quakers had at least three hits highlighted by Matt finishing a triple shy of the cycle. Christian Scafidi went six innings to earn the victory for Penn.
Princeton gets back into Ivy action at Clarke Field on Tuesday (Apr. 17) with a doubleheader vs. the Harvard Crimson beginning at 11:30 a.m.
